- After a blow to the head, Gilles wakes up in the hospital. He knows that his wife Lisa caused the injury. The act is the result of years of accumulated desperation and shows the extent of the rift in the marriage. So he decides to fake amnesia for everyone to explore what went wrong in his marriage.
- Prominent crime writer Gilles Sobiri has lost his memory following a mysterious, alleged accident at his home in Potsdam. His wife Lisa returns with him from the clinic to their house by the lake. But is it really his home? Gilles is suspicious: is Lisa, the passionate and fun-loving music teacher, really his wife? Gilles can't remember anything - or so it seems. Who is he? Who is Lisa? What kind of marriage did they have? He persistently tries to reconstruct his past, his life. Disturbed and amused at the same time, he listens to the wonderful portrait Lisa paints of him, their life together, and their shared love. But what if Lisa is lying? Is he really the way she describes him? Or is Gilles playing a game? Does he know more than he admits? At least that's what his friend and neighbor Marc believes. Marc would like to take advantage of Gilles' amnesia to borrow his motorcycle, but he finds that Gilles is hesitant. Perhaps he remembers that Marc damaged the expensive vehicle last time. Marc's wife Pia is a close friend of Lisa's, knows about her marital crisis, and encourages her to use the peculiar situation to reprogram and reshape her husband Gilles into the ideal partner: after all, he no longer knows his preferences. And so, to the great astonishment of Lisa's mother Helen, Gilles suddenly becomes a vegan and dog lover. Lisa and Gilles repeatedly surprise each other in their almost crime-novel-like game of hide-and-seek between desire and truth, which leads deeper and deeper into the history of their great love. Their relationship was sometimes conflict-ridden. Chief Inspector Dieter Beil suspects as much, and Gilles' literary agent Rose McAlistair knows it very well, as she wants more than just the new novel from her successful author.—ZDF
