Funny, scary, tight NYC story!
What a clever, unique film! Anyone who loves New York, (especially Coney Island) and horror should find a way to see this movie. Lots of inside jokes for urban dwellers and also for those who don't understand how $2k a month is a bargain for a three-bedroom apartment in the East Village...EVil, like SoHo;) It's not easy to pull off funny terrifying moments of extreme peril with moments that are sweet between characters but it's genuine happening here. Add the blood, gore, nudity and creepy dolls and legit jumps, and a storyline that's twisty with no loose ends- it's a blast. Jennifer Houston's comic timing and fab ponytails cement that gen-X scream queens still rule!!!!
Weird, funny, creepy, flawed
A middle-aged couple (Jennifer Leigh Houston & Charley Tucker) find a strangely affordable, fully furnished apartment with lots of creepy decor in the East Village (E-Vil, get it?), and sign a lease, despite being told that a previous tenant murdered his family and killed himself. Immediately, strange things begin happening, and specters lurk in every shadow. Meanwhile, a psychic carnie realizes the couple is in jeopardy and feels compelled to help, despite the urgings of his husband.
First of all, I'm not a shill, but I've graded on an indie curve. The filmmakers had to get creative with a microbudget, and the lead actors were solid, although some of the supporting players were not so hot (which is forgivable in this sort of movie). The film tries to be a lot of things and mostly succeeds. It's a comedy that frequently had me LMAO, it's a James Wan-style horror movie with lots of creepy moments, it's an homage to horror classics, and it's... a musical? Well, not exactly, but there is one off-the-wall song.
Where the film failed for me was the climax, which was a little too ambitious. No spoilers, but it tries to be outrageous, funny, and scary all at once, and it's a combination that just doesn't work. However, it still has a decent ending (and funny mid and post-credits scenes). My other issue is that there's a tad too much regional humor, that I got, but as a non-New Yorker, I didn't find those jokes particularly funny.
This isn't a movie for everybody, but if you can handle low-budget and your sense of humor is a little bit off, I highly recommend it. It's the type of movie that probably plays even better in a theater or with a friend group. Here's hoping a boutique label gives it a home media release, cuz it's got an instant cult-classic vibe.

Genuinely hilarious and smart horror comedy
This movie will surprise you. What it lacks in budget, it more than makes up for with genuinely hilarious dialogue, great acting, real characters and some pretty effective scares. This is a very clever and smart film that is guaranteed to be unlike anything you've seen before. Sally Struthers slays and even sings! Plus her relationship with Charley Tucker was extremely believable. You felt like they were this sweet couple and gave you cause to root for them. Plus they were hilarious together. But beyond that, Jennifer Leigh Houston was amazing as well and damn can she sing! So if you're down for a fun albeit low budget good time filled with extremely talented actors playing some fun and interesting characters, check out this solid film!
Good watch
Its mostly a comedy, but there are quite a few scenes which are creepy.
Definitely worth your time. The lead pair was pretty good IMHO.
The psychic guy was a bit weird.
And yeah, the ending was perfect.
Some part of the movie seemed a bit amateur, as if the movie was shot/directed by two different persons.
Otherwise, totally worth your time (and money).

A hilarious creeper about the horrors of "affordable" Manhattan apartment
A balls-out hilarious nightmare comedy about the devil's bargain that is finding an affordable Manhattan apartment. A loving tribute to New York's grittiness and New Yorkers' grit, it's got a lived-in DIY aesthetic, excellent scares, some squirm-inducing special effects, a high gut-laughs-per-minute ratio, queer representation galore, and even some genuine feeling along the way. Jennifer Leigh Houston is magnificent as the tough and terrorized heroine, Pat Dwyer and Stephen Mosher shine as a couple of Coney Island gay paranormal investigators, and when Sally Struthers shows up...she shows it's no accident that she's been out here killing it for all these decades.
If you are a horror-comedy fan and this screens near you, don't miss it.
