- Bo was dead. He killed himself. Samuel was Bo's best friend. They had an argument that they never fixed. Blackberrying opens with Bo waking up outside a strange house, scared and confused. He is drawn inside, and finds Samuel - who isn't sure how he got there either. The setting is dusty, peeling, dark. They both seem to recognise it, though. The former friends' reintroduction is cold, with icy pleasantries steadily cranking the tension. The surreal surroundings almost become another character, creaking and whispering. For a second, Bo wonders if he's alive. A particular moment shows him he's not. Through four short but explosive scenes, the pair push, argue, and shout their way to the haunting realisation that if Bo is to rest in peace, they have to say something first. Blackberrying is a collaboration between Jacobs, whose film work has shown at the London Feminist Film Festival and been featured in VICE; producer Adam Robinson, whose directorial work has been selected for UK CineFest and New York Movie Awards; and cinematographer Vincenzo Marranghino, recipient of the 2017 Panalux LFS Cinematography Award and named a BSC Emerging Cinematographer.
