Unbeknownst to them the festival and the best film award has already been paid for by Tugg Speedman, director of several low budget, schlock, horror movies, who has entered with his time travelling gangster movie Gods of Shoreditch. When Alan and Esme, who is Tugg's estranged girlfriend and Gods of Shoreditch co-star; discover a wonderful film by a homeless entrant Iron Mike; Alan will have to go against his father, Tugg and the other entrants to ensure this film wins best film of the festival. However the Adjudicator is getting suspicious and wants the meet Gabriel, the other film makers and actors have worked out the festival has been paid for and Tugg threatens a showdown in an ultimate David versus Goliath battle, with the straight-shooting Alan.—Danny Patrick
- Gods of Shoreditch plays its opening title sequence where it introduces Esme Presley and Tugg Speedman the star and director of several low budget, schlock, horror movies. Suddenly the movie is paused by Gabriel at a private screening with Farmer Will Green, Gabriel wants to persuade Will to present the awards at his film festival, although Will is impressed that Gabriel got the film festival recognized by the academy of motion pictures and sciences, he is not willing to help given that the festival is just a cynical money maker for Gabriel, as Will attempts to leave Gabriel has a heart attack.
Across the other side of Edinburgh Gabriel's only son Alan is on his way to meet his girlfriend Caroline, but when he gets there she dumps him for being too nice and has taken up with his best friend, they had dreams of producing movies together but Caroline is done waiting on Alan's dad Gabriel to put the funds where his promises are. Alan receives the call about his father and rushes back to the hotel where a paramedic is keeping Gabriel stable before the ambulance arrives. Gabriel insists Alan runs the Bargain basement Film Festival, left without a choice Alan agrees, with the main issue hiding his fathers condition from the academy appointed Adjudicator.
The quirky film makers arrive in Edinburgh at the start of the festival all eager and confident of winning the best film, leading to an academy consideration. However unbeknownst to them the festival and the best film award has already been paid for by Tugg Speedman, who has entered with his time travelling gangster movie Gods of Shoreditch. Alan and Esme, who is Tugg's estranged girlfriend and Gods of Shoreditch co-star; hit it off at their first meeting and during the festival as romance blooms. However Alan will have to appease the Adjudicator an officious man who will require Gabriel to sign off his paper work, Alan makes an excuse and takes off.
During breakfast the following day Alan tries to stop a Homeless man Mike from joining the film makers queuing up for their breakfast, but Mike reveals that he is also a film maker having made a film on his phone, but really only after a bed and a meal. Alan is unable to accept his application at this late stage but offers to allow Mike back into the breakfast room after the film makers have finished. A stand off starts but Esme intervenes, letting Alan know that allowing Mike's film into the festival has impressed her, just as they are about to leave the Adjudicator stops them, requiring Gabriel's signature on his paperwork, Alan provides an excuse to hold him off for now.
Tugg has a temper tantrum after finding out about Gabriel, he threatens Alan and Esme that he better fix the Adjudicator and get his this festival signed off or there will be trouble. Tugg storms off threatening to break his sobriety, pursued by Esme who reminds him of his promise, Tugg has calmed down but Esme is upset. The rest of the film makers are starting to find out about Gabriel and they confront Alan, still believing their films have a chance to win, Alan promises to come up with a plan to finish the festival and get the whole thing signed off by the Adjudicator. Alan puts Mike the homeless guy in his hotel room allowing him to have a shower, Esme reminds Alan that this is producing rolling with the punches and coming up with solutions. They discover Mike's film on a DVD that is among his clothes, Mike agrees that they can watch it, however both Esme and Alan are amazed by the film and what Mike achieved.
The adjudicator has had enough of Alan's excuses and demands to see Gabriel, Alan manages to convince him that Gabriel will be there at the end of the next film screening. Esme and Alan come up with a plan to use one of the attending film makers who is also an actor Enn, to pretend to be Gabriel, after a shaky initial encounter with the adjudicator the paperwork is signed off, but that is only the start of their problems as the Adjudicator is expecting Gabriel to now take over the presentations. Tugg and Esme during the screening of their movie promises that she can produce their next one, but Esme catches him promising another female film maker Jade the same thing and decides she's had enough of Tugg.
Esme enlists Alan's help to go against his father Gabriel and Tugg, wanting Mike's homeless film wins best of the festival, but Tugg threatens a showdown in an ultimate David versus Goliath battle, with the straight-shooting Alan and plans to reveal Gabriel's secret to the Adjudicator.
