An Attempt to paint a huge painting on a small canvas

When you try to put so many things in a small container and it's filled up to brim and still you have one more thing left to put into it -of which a hype was created about that last thing , it looks misplaced and not fitting. Yes this is what "Toby " is . The makers have taken a huge effort in making there is no doubt in this . Excellent performances by all the actors and actresses. Great BGM and songs that merge so well with the visuals . Stunning Cinematography, locations , dialogues without which the film would have become another ordinary revenge drama. Yes, It is a good one time watch movie. What I noticed in audience is that they could not connect with the movie. It could have been better! Is what I felt walking silently with lowered head out of the theatre!

Not as expected, very much predictable

As any other movie, this movie starts with the introduction to the character Toby but it takes too much time. Toby written on the palm is shown atleast half a dozen time and it gets irritating rather than creating curiosity.

The police inspector character looks very pale. Every character speaks with a long pause that the people in the theatre started talking.

The 2nd half picks up little pace, but the climax is very much predictable, thanks to the trailer.

A person stabbed multiple times and declared almost dead can be seen fighting and killing dozens of goondas within few minutes, just like any masala high octane movie. Bizzare costume and actions cannot elevate the experience.

For example, when the main character is crying during climax, we cannot sympathize with him.

Raj was liked for his story telling and much realistic approach. But here, though the premises looks authentic, it's just like another run-of-the-mill movie.

Music and cinematography are top notch. Acting is very good, especially Jenny (both kid and adult).

But, the content itself is so mediocre especially for the Shetty 'genre', felt so much disappointed. Hope Raj doesn't fall for the love of stardom.

This ram was never meant to be tamed!

Newly appointed SI finds Jenny creating ruckus infront of the police station, demanding to find her missing father. As he takes up the case, the subsequent interrogation of four individuals reveal more about Jenny's father Toby, who has an entire shelf filled with his records at the police station. Father Iglesias finds him at a remand home and takes him in, by giving him the name Toby which is short for Tobias. But Toby isn't the peaceful god instead the replica of Satan. What is the story of Toby and Jenny? Why is he missing and what wrath will be bring upon his return forms rest of the story.

Screenplay written by Raj B Shetty based on the short story by T. K. Dayanand has it's strengths lie in the characters. In short, it's a revenge story but that is only the last act. The story building till the last act is what driven by the characters where not just Toby but the other four characters play a prominent role in shaping up the film for what it is. The narrative pace is slow but definitely effective and the performances stand out. There are several scenes that stood out and my personal favorites were the fight scene where it intercuts to his imagination of the wedding and that brief yet impactful shot of the coffee being served on a cup as well as steel glass. It does get predictable towards the third act but it is still worth watching.

Good Script, Good Acting, Good Direction

I would had given an 8 to this movie if it was not for the climax in the movie. I should say that the Mangalore Gang has a good sense in making quality Kannada movies. They have the ability to know how to balance the commercial aspects of the movie, and also keep the movie artistic also.

This movie is like 'Gowli' movie which released a few months ago, but more commercial aspects in this movie. Raj B Shetty seems to have found the jest of making movies apt for him. You can see a little of Garuda Gamana Vrishaba Vahana in this movie. Raj kills the movie, while Samyukta has her part as the opposite. Other actors make you immersed in the movie. Wish the Shetty Gang, also known as Karnataka's Malabar for making Mallu style movies here.

Good performance. But predictable story line.

Movie is one time watchable. Neither extraordinary nor bad.

Raj B Shetty's performance is very good in the movie.

The story line is taken along in similar lines as Garuda Gamana Vrishaba Vahana (GGVV). But it is not as gripping as GGVV.

The story becomes kind of predictable.

GGVV is great. Nothing can match that. One suggestion to Raj B Shetty is that, please move on from same story line. Try something a bit different now.

We have seen underworld related stories from our coastal side in Uliravaru Kandanthe, GGVV and now this.

When we see these movies, we start to feel like is underworld that bad there? It feels like we can't survive.

I know it is not as bad as it is shown in movies.

We need to see different side of our coastal Karnataka.
