Featured review
The back story:
A mother (Natasha Régnier) struggled for twelve years to raise her severely handicapped daughter. In recent months the daughter had started to decline, increasing the drain on the mother. Unable to consider sending her daughter to a psychiatric institution, the mother becomes convinced that the daughter does not want this life. One day the mother reaches the end of her rope and throws her daughter into a river.
The film:
The mother has been incarcerated for months, awaiting legal proceedings. Her mother (Martine Chevallier) finds her a lawyer, a man (Samuel le Bihan) who hasn't practiced criminal law for more than a few years (adding to the drama).
The movie examines the difficulty of raising a severely handicapped child and the contradictions in how society views these situations.
The story is very sensitively directed, acted and filmed.
