This drama was more realistic than most, which is what I enjoyed about it. No silly overused tropes about young women going back in time or body switching, ectera et cetera. Both leads did a good acting job and had good chemistry together. I was especially impressed by the actor playing the prince's cousin. I was impressed by his acting skills, especially his expressions and his physicality were very interesting. Would like to see him in more series. The show dragged in a few places and seemed repetitive. The ending was disappointing. Seems so unnecessary to have a choppy ending when all the plot lines involving all the characters could have been resolved so easily and so well! PS... could someone please feed the Chinese actors and actresses. Thank you.
The leads have us captive in the palm of their hand with their chemistry. Subtle but longing for each others presence throughout the series made for compelling viewing. Fabulous acting by leads and others. Liu Yuning was nothing short of masterful as the cold faced but soft hearted man. Song Zuer was gorgeous in her looks and wit. The scenes with their tenderness and passion were amazing. Story line very interesting and never a dull moment. Only criticism but a big criticism was the ending was disjointed and extremely rushed. We did not see the cousins reunite nor did we see BiZhi and his little daughter carving a new life. And most importantly we did not see more children for Wei Shao and Manman. It was not a well resolved rounded ending. So disappointing. Shame on the director.
I think the best way to define this drama is that it does what its supposed to, nothing less and... nothing more.
I'll start by saying that they did the whole enemies to lovers thing really well, in the sense that you completely understand the animosity between them but you also get to see and understand how their relationship is repaired and deepened.
I also think the supporting characters were all pretty interesting with defining personalities and their own motivations that tied in well with the story. This made every scene worth watching.
I do think the romance was lacking, I feel like they held off on it till the tail end then seemed to rush through it.
All in all, I think this show is really worth watching, you won't regret it. And a quick shout out to the leading actors. The female lead really gave an outstanding performance and the male lead wasn't far behind, I could really see how much he has improved.

I think if you are new into chinese drama esp one in classic costume and you are a girl who all about sweet romance and romantic comedy, than The prisoner of Beauty is the perfect started pack!
It seems dark or serious during 1-2 episode but it's turn into more romantic comedy and family & friendship bonding with further episode. You don't need to think hard and just enjoy the flow of this drama and have fun and yes smiling all along. Yes since its costume drama of course there gonna be some up and down but overall it's a sweet historical romantic comedy to warm you with face and laugh out loud.

The storyline is well-paced, intense, and keeps you hooked from start to finish-there's not a single dull moment. The cinematography is soft and beautifully done, giving a warm and comforting vibe throughout. The original soundtrack (OST) is also stunning, perfectly capturing the emotions of each scene.
The cast did an incredible job. Every actor portrayed their character with such depth and realism that I felt deeply connected to all of them. The chemistry between the lead actors was especially amazing-so good that I genuinely hope to see them act together again in the future. I also loved how clever and quick-witted the characters were; their dynamic made the story even more engaging and memorable.
Some scenes felt a bit rushed due to the limited number of episodes (36), but that's understandable. Honestly, I wish there were around 40 episodes because I didn't want it to end! Overall, it's a series that stays with you long after it ends-an unforgettable experience that absolutely deserves a full 10 out of 10!
