Unlike what other people have said I really enjoyed this documentary as someone who was born in 2000 and wasn't able to witness the 90s. I felt that it talked about a lot of very interesting moments in the 90s that had an impact on the 90s and helped get the people ready for 2000s. This miniseries definitely made me wish that I could go back in time and experience the 90s because it looks like an amazing decade to live in despite some of the bad events that happened during the time. I would highly recommend this to anyone looking for a simple look at what made the 90s one of my favorite decades to learn about.
I was born in the 80's.. grew up in the 90's.. this show feels very realistic to what I remember.. I didn't think it was biased.. bashing or whatever else people who gave it 1 start reviews said.. people don't like hear real commentary about the bad stuff that happened in our society (cops did beat up a black man in the street and lie about it.. abstinence didn't help prepare our youth when it came to knowledge of sex/STDs).. everything isn't going to be sugar coated to make everyone comfortable/happy.. I watched the whole series and enjoyed it all.. where there some uncomfortable parts? Sure.. but it's a documentary told from the view of the people who were there and lived through it.. just because it isn't one persons reality or how THEY remember things doesn't mean it I isn't another persons reality.. I wish people were a bit more open minded and accepting of other peoples lived experiences.. again I enjoyed it.. seemed very spot on from my POV.. I hope you enjoy it!
I was so excited when I found this "documentary" series. Unfortunately, it's just told from the viewpoint of one group of people and obviously a variety of Gen-X kids were not included in the planning. After watching the first 3 episodes, I stopped watching. I was born in the 70s, kid in the 80s, high school and college in the 90s. What I thought would be a wonderful nostalgic piece reminding me of the 90s experience turned out to be pictures and videos that do not show what the 90s fully were (and definitely not the way I lived it). It could have been so much more. :( I seriously wish I could give a better review.
Focused on political statements when was not necessary. Each episode speaks of so called lesser people finally getting a chance to be equal. Does not make sense to include gender and race politics in a documentary as the main thing. There were so much more to the nineties! Yes it should be included but not accentuated. Just another biased "documentary" that is more of a political statement trying to erroneously change history through directors and writers using opinion as fact. Would be more interesting if there were actual facts being shown instead of just one sided opinions. Not sure documentaries exist anymore. Very disappointing.
I did make it through all of the episodes but by about the 3rd one they all felt the same. It seems like at least a 1/3 or more of each episode is dedicated to showing how each marginalized group finally has a voice thanks to something from the 90's. Watching the episodes it almost got to be distracting, like you were just waiting for it to be brought up again. Then when it inevitably was I could only think, here we go again.
The series does have some great footage and it was fun to remember some things I'd forgotten about. But it would have been better to just present events and trends from the 90's without having to tie everything into the message that because of X happening marginalized group Y finally has a voice.
