    Popcorn For the Soul

What a glorious little gem of a show. The writing was great, acting was suburb, and the direction/editing kept the comedy and pace wonderfully punchy. This show knew exactly what it was and nailed that tone and style all the way through (supported masterfully by the 90s and 'bubble-gum' visuals vibe). Looking forward to seeing what these creatives do next as there's some serious talent at play here - and some seriously solid screencraft.

If you love energy, vibes, nostalgia, laughs, the 90s, rom-coms, coming-of-age, LGBTQIA+ content and moving stories jam-packed with heart - this one's for you!

    Cringey and painful.

Love nostalgia, love queer stories; hate bad acting, bad writing and so much second hand embarrassment you want to die.

The premise of the show is great and has so much potential behind it, but it is ruined by the over the top delivery and cringey writing. What it thinks is funny, really isn't. There are some great nods to 90's queer culture, and it would have been more triumphant had it leaned more heavily into that, but instead it tried for cheap laughs that didn't come off.

There are some poignant moments that probably wouldn't hit better without the director casting herself into the older queer mentor role. It just got lost in what felt like a high-school short film.

    Fun, offbeat and enjoyable

I don't watch any Australian tv shows (even though I'm an Aussie) but this Aussie show surprised me in the best way! It was only 2 episodes long but I hope they release more eps on Netflix.

It was fun, cheesy, admittedly cringey but definitely got some laughs out of me.

The delivery was over the top but I liked this style. The pastel pink and blue aesthetic was a good choice. I liked that despite the show only taking place at the 'Videoland' store set, it was still felt engaging.

The small cast Hayley, Jennifer, Tanya, Daniel, Mel and Karen did a superb job. There was Tanya's no-filter and supportive BFF energy, Hayley's self-discovery and nerdy references to movie lines, Daniel's character arc and Karen just being a Karen. I liked that Mel had older sister energy and did a great job of being the apparently stern boss but still rolling with Hayley and Tanya's shenanigans, it was just great.

The characters felt so distinct and hope they get fleshed out abit more later. Would definitely recommend checking out this show!
