Soft Leaves

I got to see this movie in advance, before the premiere. I'll write this review in English, even though I watched the movie in Dutch.

The film is visually stunning, with beautiful cinematography. The performances feel natural and sincere, adding to the film's emotional depth. However, the pacing can feel slow at times, making certain scenes drag. That said, this slow-burning approach allows the emotions to settle, making key moments even more impactful.

What makes Soft Leaves stand out is its relatability. It doesn't rely on dramatic twists but instead focuses on the everyday struggles of a family. It portrays childhood in a way that feels real-sometimes lonely, sometimes confusing, sometimes annoying, yet deeply felt. For those who have experienced complex family relationships, the film strikes a personal chord.

While it may not be for everyone due to its slower pace, Soft Leaves is a beautifully crafted, emotional film that does stick in your mind for a while. It's a story about family & childhood, and the complications that can arise in them.
