The film, based on a true story, is about a group of friends who get together every year in May to continue an intense game of tag that they've had going for 30+ years. When one of the men, Jerry, who hasn't been tagged in 30 years, decides to quit after this year's round, the others decide to team up and go all-out in a last-ditch effort to tag Jerry.
Yes, though it's a dramatization. There really was a group of friends who had a 20+ year game of tag going, though their names have been changed in the film, and the tag sequences in the movie are much more over-the-top and dramatized.
