Goofs

Amish Stud: The Eli Weaver Story

Edit

Continuity

After the prosecutor finishes her questioning Eli, all the Amish men left the courtroom. The only Amish person left was Abigail. When Abigail was testifying, the camera panned the courtroom and Minister Weaver, Eli's father, was seen seated behind the prosecutor.

Factual errors

When the little girl is shown holding her doll, it shows the doll has a face. The Amish do not believe in the making of graven images, as it is considered a violation of the Second Commandment. Therefore, their children's dolls do not have faces.
Eli has a beard in the beginning of the movie, before he married Barbara. It's only once they are married, that Amish men grow beards. It is a sign of the transition from boyhood to manhood. Unmarried Amish men do not sport beards.
The movie only indicates that Eli and Barbara had 2 child when in fact they had 5.
When Barbara Weaver is found dead by her young daughter, her hand is shown outside the covers with blood. Her fingernails are painted bright red. Amish would never paint their nails.
In a scene near the beginning, the detective mispronounces the word "devout" as "de-vote." It is pronounced "duh-vowt'" with emphasis on second syllable.

Revealing mistakes

After Eli breaks during his and Laura's first game of pool, Laura makes a sincere comment of praise about the shot. However, the cue ball can be seen going into the corner pocket.
At around one hour into the film, Barb Weaver is sitting on a blanket on the lawn talking with her sister. The soles of her shoes are facing the camera: they are clean and non-scuffed like new. Since her wayward husband has been giving her no money, those shoes should have been well-worn, perhaps even with holes in the soles.

Audio/visual unsynchronised

When Barb and Eli are sitting at the computer and Barb mentions putting poison in a cupcake, there is one shot of Barb where she is speaking but her mouth is not moving to the words.

Character error

Several characters are referred to by a different name in the movie than what is listed in the end credits. The lead police detective portrayed by Brent Stait is referred to as Detective Bruce London, and is listed in the end credits as Detective John Chuhi. Barbara Weaver's sister portrayed by Clare Filipow is referred to as Abigail, and is listed in the end credits as Fannie Troyer. And Eli Weaver's girlfriend portrayed by Karolina Cubitt is referred to as Tamara Jones, and is listed in the end credits as Tamara Juarez.
