The movie earned S$1.51 million in its opening weekend, breaking the record for the highest box office earnings for the country's local production.
As of February 26, 2013, the film has grossed S$7.08 million, becoming the highest grossing Singaporean film in its own country.
Many of the details featured in the movie are authentic; most of the in-camp locations are filmed on the actual island itself; the rumour about "no trainings on Thursday nights" have been a story that had been passed down for decades; the fact of soldiers' parents complaining is mirrored after real life complaints received by the authorities; the tendency that recruits experience break-ups during their BMT period occurs in almost every cohort and the hiding of snacks.
