Great, another movie from Maverick Entertainment. And that pretty much set the expectation bar pretty low.
Granted, I had never even heard about this 2020 drama titled "Complexions", from writer and director Nakia T Hamilton, prior to stumbling upon it by random chance here in 2025. And with it being a movie that I had never seen, nor even heard about, of course I opted to give the movie a fair chance, even if it was from Maverick Entertainment.
The narrative was not bad, and there were actually some interesting contents to the storyline. For a movie from Maverick Entertainment, I will say the storyline was actually one of their better. However, and yes there is a however, the narrative was hindered by a slow pacing, which made it a bit of a struggle to sit through the movie. There was nothing in terms of ups and down in the narrative, writer Nakia T Hamilton just continued straight ahead out of a flat path, and that made the pacing of the narrative sluggish and dull at times.
Needless to say that I was not familiar with a single actor or actress on the cast list. The acting performances in the movie were actually good.
"Complexions" is not a bad movie, it is just struggling with its pacing of the narrative. And it is actually a movie that is worth checking out. However, it is hardly a movie that warrants more than a single viewing.
For a movie from Maverick Entertainment, this movie was actually a fair one.
My rating of writer and director Nakia T Hamilton's 2020 movie "Complexions" lands on a five out of ten stars.
