Masood and Hamed live in a room at Umm-Lawazeh's house. Debt accumulates on them towards people of the neighborhood, especially Boss Azamah, the butcher, and Sankar, the grocer. Lawahez sympathizes with them and tries to prevent her mother from asking them for the late rent because she loves Masood. One day, a letter arrives from Australia stating that Masood's uncle has died and left a million pounds in inheritance. As the news spreads, everyone courtes them in the hope of getting their money as soon as Masood receives the inheritance.
