Albert Brooks, Alessandro Nivola, David Oyelowo, Oscar Isaac, and Jessica Chastain in A Most Violent Year (2014)

Trivia

A Most Violent Year

Edit
Jessica Chastain thought that her nouveau-riche character Anna would only wear Armani and wrote to the fashion house to request that they lend their costumes to the film. They obliged, so every outfit that Anna wears is vintage Armani from 1981.
After Javier Bardem left the project, Jessica Chastain wrote director J.C. Chandor an impassioned three-page letter asking him to consider Oscar Isaac for the lead role. Chandor replied back almost immediately with an e-mail saying he was already considering Isaac.
Thematically, much of the film is derived from the philosophical theory "Deontology" by Immanuel Kant. Kant's theory states that a person should not make moral choices based on a possible "outcome," but instead should make choices based on what is "most right."
Javier Bardem was cast in the lead role during development. But after some disagreements with the film's direction, Bardem dropped out. Jessica Chastain suggested her former Juillard classmate, Oscar Isaac, who ended up being cast.
Message in closing credits:

Camera assistant Sarah Jones died tragically on another set while this film was in production. The filmmakers would like to acknowledge the importance of safe working practices when making movies. We are grateful to our entire crew for their professionalism and careful preparation www.SafetyforSarah.com
