Synopsis

  • Rosinante is the name of the motorcycle belonging to a former white-collar couple struggling to stay afloat in Istanbul with their six-year-old son, Emre, who has never spoken. And this motorcycle is Emre's only friend. Despite his mother being stuck for years in a temporary phone-based insurance sales job and his father constantly returning home empty-handed from job interviews, Emre remains silent, speaking only to Rosinante.

Meanwhile, as the family desperately searches for an affordable rental home-a nearly impossible task in Istanbul-they take up motorcycle taxi driving as a temporary job. But this means Emre is separated from his only friend. Stuck in an apartment full of unpacked boxes, unable to move, he spends his days with his mother, who struggles to sell insurance over the phone.

When they realize that the motorcycle taxi business registered under Salih's name is bringing in some money, Ayse, who sells insurance during the day, also starts carrying passengers at night. Since the system is registered under Salih's name, Ayse disguises herself by wearing a full-face helmet and remains silent, pretending to be Salih. But soon, she is fired from her insurance job. When Salih catches a cold and falls ill, they fully transition into taxi driving-taking shifts at first, then working full-time. Salih stays home with Emre, while Ayse throws herself into carrying passengers day and night. They manage to hold everything together-until the day their motorcycle, Rosinante, is stolen.

One night, Ayse rushes to help an injured courier after an accident, leaving the motorcycle unattended for just a moment. In the blink of an eye, Rosinante is gone, and with it, their fragile stability collapses.

Now, Rosinante is no more. To fight against the windmills, they must walk. Stepping off Rosinante, they realize their armor was nothing more than tin. The only things left to hold onto are small possibilities-the chance of finding a new job, the hope that their son will finally speak, the slim possibility of finding Rosinante again in a city of sixteen million people.

Despite all their efforts, they never find Rosinante. But in their darkest hour, when they fight off their most hopeless thoughts, a moment of light breaks through. As if to remind them of what truly matters, their son Emre, who has never spoken a word, suddenly speaks. On a rare day when they forget all their troubles, simply playing together as a family, Emre joyfully shouts, "Rosinante!"

In the end, Rosinante becomes the name of something both easily lost and, if you believe enough, something that finds its way back to you. The name of hope.
