Victory

I don't understand why this cheerleading movie was not a hit at the box office. This is a multifaceted comedy with all the things that make Korean movies better than superficial Hollywood movies. The story is good so you don't need to resort to crudeness for laughs. Their friendships are feel good.

Compare this to the Bring it On movies and you will see this has more character depth and sympathy for the cast due to back stories.

Hyeri is right for the role. Feisty enough and convincing in that she is not the too gorgeous or too glamorous type. Park Se Wan has come far from No Mercy. She had to learn to dance for the role. Nice pairing. Lee Jeong Ha the plump boy from Moving who is not really fat in real life is a comic relief.

Go see it and do not let this movie bomb. It deserves to succeed.

This film is comedic at times and tearjerking at others. It has poignant moments which bring out fantastic character arcs and development. The connection one feels with the protagonists is palpable in that it really translates on a wide emotional range for one. This is a classic film which is not superficial comedy: it brings out pressing points set in an industrial town with the challenges of power and poverty. But it's also not insistent on its preaching as many a film can be - it allows a viewer to immerse themselves into the dramedy of high school and feel as they feel - like it may well be the end of the world.

Victory is a heartwarming, enjoyable and superfunny underrated movie. But also a sweet and spirited ode to friendship, dreams, and 90s nostalgia. With an amazing writing that; makes the charecters endearing, builds a perfect story, it's very tender and it sneaks up on you.

You can tell this was made with real affection, not just for the characters, but for the music, the cinematography, the choreographies... The soundtrack and choreography are absolute highlights, I was shazaming all the songs. It's an authentic celebration of girlhood in all its messy, beautiful complexity, a women celebration.

I loved Pil-Sum, she's the anchor of this film. She is cute and chaotic, but she never feels forced or overly quirky. Her growth doesn't come from radical change, it comes from refining who she already is. It's subtle, and it works. And that mullet is fire. Mi-Na was hilarious, with dumb jokes that really fit well in the movie. Overall all the charecters were hilarious and amazing, maybe with predictable tropes but at the same time totally unhinged. I love my Millenium Girls. And also the side story of the goalkeeper was also hilarious and cute.

The jokes on this movie are top tier, its been a long time since I haven't laughed that much. A perfect combination of seizing all the scenes and an excellent writing.
