A treasure for Fae Folk Fans

I'm surprised that the reviews for this film are so bad. It's rather enchanting and plays on many ancient folk themes. The actors are brilliant and magical in each of their own rights. It all starts with dreams good and bad and then a wild mushroom trip. I don't even like horror films, but this one was really creepy. The end bit was admittedly a bit confusing, but incredibly poetic. It's the stuff of wonder. Perhaps the genre was indeed mislabeled. Perhaps it was not gruesome enough for the general public...

Efforts given but the result is nowhere near satisfactory?

The technical aspects are executed proficiently, contributing significantly to the creation and then sustenance of an eerie & spooky atmosphere throughout the narrative.

Particularly noteworthy is the sound designing, which carries much of the weight in establishing the ambiance.

However when I sit down to scrutinize the script and storyline, inherent flaws and shortcomings become glaringly apparent.

This leads me to an impression that the writing is largely superficial, attempting to cling onto psychological / allegorical insinuations in a bid to appear introspective.

Unfortunately, the requisite material to support such ambitions is non-existent.

    Give it a try

This is undoubtedly a tricky proposition but it seems to me that we castigate things for following a formula and then when someone attempts something different we moan about that as well. There is an intelligence to this project aligned with a willingness to take risks. Yes it doesn't always work but I think it's worth watching with an open mind. At least it's trying to forge a different path!

    Abject nothingness

I did not like this movie. It is worth noting though that I have come to the realisation that I do not like the folk horror sub-genre. It is not interesting or scary or watchable to me in any way.

There was nothing in 'Rabbit Trap' I could grip on to. I felt like I was watching a movie about nothing. No story, no interesting characters, nothing inspiring or mysterious or intimidating or suspenseful. Abject nothingness.

This one was not for me. 3/10.

    What Was this?!

I have no idea what this was supposed to even mean.

So two weird musicians who record all sorts of stuff, water running into a jug, etc wander about the woods and then there is some gild who turns up, goes on about how her brother crawled into a fairy ring when a baby then died.

Brings them a rabbit caught with traps, gets offended as he doesn't know how to skin it.

Turns up at all hours and has tantrums if not allowed in.

They go into the woods, not much coherent happens.

Next thing they lying together, he's telling some story about a rabbit, she vanishes and they are lying with a dead rabbit.

Then he records some thing for his wife who listens.

    The end.

It's not a spooky story and if it's about abuse - some random review told me - then it's utterly incoherent as well.

Just a lot of weird noises, no I am not buying the album. And weird happenings with dead rabbits.

    Whatever.
