A Regular Guy

This show already feels epic, painful and like a love letter from lifelong fans of Superman. This episode feels like the swan song. This episode elevates the entire season with hardly any action. It feels like a character study of the responsibility behind the secret of Superman that beautifully illustrates the pain it caused, but only makes you love it more. The episode feels like you can finally take a breath from the action, but it is heartbreaking at the same time, because in a way, this is a goodbye to the character of Superman. And that is made clear in one of this episodes final moments. As a fan of Superman since I was a kid, this episode stirred up so many emotions, even when it brought in characters from the comics that have been with Superman for years, it felt earned and beautifully brief. Some of the best acting from Tyler Hoechlin. I'm sad this show is ending, but in many ways, even if it ended here, it would still be beautiful.

UNEASE needs a new definition in the dictionary. And it needs to cover whatever this episode stirs in me. Because honestly, this is the most UNEASE I ever felt in my (fairly long) life. Scene: A punk tries to shoot superman with a hand gun, in a bar. Superman doesn't reveal that he can move away really quick, but simply lets the bullet bounce off his cape. The punk is shocked. But it is Superman's response that is so ... unnerving, hope-quashing and just so dark. Because Superman just looks at the shooter in a kind of respectful pity. "Sorry, buddy. You had to know." It's not a complex scene. It could have been shown 30 years ago ? But there is some dark, inspired stuff going on, and it really hits me - with extreme unease - deep in my guts. I haven't watched much TV in the 2020s, but this has to be the most emotional moment of the decade. Emotional in a soul quashing way. Well done. And the scene feels so effortless. "We producers could always have shown you that scene. But the time is now. Enjoy."
