The first film for Alberto Martinez in 7 years. Principle photography on Hangman's Noose (2013) was completed by 2005 and a rough cut was edited in 2006. Martinez wrote, acted and edited "One Velvet Night" for director Alex Clavijo in 2006. That film was the last production he was involved in before retiring from films. "One Velvet Night" was a short film about a man who was afraid to get back into relationships. "What Am I" is a film about a man who is afraid to get back into relationships.

Before D.H.A.R.M.A. 9 (2014) this film had the shortest production time for Martinez. Principle photography and post production combined were total two months. By contrast, Hangman's Noose (2013) took a year and a half to complete, and "Solomon's Requiem (2004)" took 2 years.
Due to her work on this film, Theresa Freeman was cast as Yolanda in Hope a Brooklyn Story (2014) by director Wanly Florexile
Shot in Astoria, Queens and Williamsburg, Brooklyn.
