'Fog Island' isn't your typical, run of the mill, stalk 'n' slash horror. It's more than that. With its nostalgic design and creepy music, it's a worthy homage to all the old 70's and 80's shockers.
The movie follows Nikki Frost to the spooky Island, as she seeks refuge from a failed relationship. With her group of mis-matched DJ's, she takes over the local radio station, unaware her arrival will kickstart a murderous chain of events, that will keep you guessing to the final, heart stopping reel.
Made with a zero budget, bucket loads of blood and enthusiasm......this is one killer movie! With its tongue set firmly in its cheek, Fog Island is a cheerful and spirited addition to the horror genre. Blades fall, heads fly and blood flows as the body count rises.
Although typically formulaic, I found this scarily-funny. Better than some studio produced fodder I've seen recently...and I genuinely mean that!! The final scene even made ME jump, and having lived 42 years in South Shields, I don't scare easy!
The ONLY....and i mean ONLY.....fault I have is the lack of a 'proper script'. A lot of the scenes were improvised. This means that some of the dialogue is repeated in certain scenes. You can tell some of the actors are just muddling through. Sometimes this is endearing, other times it's frustrating (from a writer's POV anyway). However, this does not detract from what is a very enjoyable and funny horror-comedy!! It shall definitely gain 'cult' status....

This film was partially shot on location at the YMCA North Tyneside and features some truly horrific B Movie effects to create a hack and slash journey through a strange and dark script. The film focuses on a new radio station which has been set up on 'Fog Island' and the apparent "bad karma" which seems to have attached itself to the station.
I recommend watching this film if you're a fan of low budget, cheaply made horror films, films which show acting and production at the most basic level and which really get back to the traditional film makers art when it comes to self financed horror films. And that's a good thing, because some of the most well financed horror films of the last few years have been truly awful, whereas this one has a lot of good points.
A friend of mine watched my copy on Christmas Eve and has yet to return it. I may need to go and ask him for it back so I can watch it again!
