A wonderful variety program, filled with new talent, influencers, and star-power; it wouldn't be too surprising if viewers stream this not realizing the history. The Media Access Awards have been around since 1978, yet its television broadcast on PBS SoCal at the end of 2023 is a first with this airing. I'm verifying this within this review, as I was once part of the office staff, and still know that the recognition of talent and allies within the media industries is important for maintaining momentum for those seeking careers in front of and behind the camera.
With inclusion as a more established business practice, making casting decisions, developing characters and whole shows, or encouraging overall social acceptance rather than marginalization of people with disabilities truly feels natural to be standard practice. Kudos for the fluid and performance-centered transitions.
