These Stars Are on the Rise

Amidst a world riddled with societal hardships, 25-year-old Philip battles to make his mark. With mounting living costs and taxes, he, like countless others, grapples to survive. Frustration drives him to commit minor offences, a bid to spotlight the struggles of the lower class citizens. Evading the police's pursuit, he chooses a global platform for his plea. Disguised as a maintenance worker, Philip infiltrates a news station just as the 6 o'clock news airs, seizing the moment, bomb trigger in hand. With the world watching, he demands to be heard, giving them an ultimatum, either his message must be delivered without interruption, or he will detonate the explosive device. Amidst the chaos, 28-year- old Samantha, is trying to get a hold on the situation, giving each crew member a specific task in hopes they find and stop the bomb. With the planet as his audience, he must convey his words before law enforcement intervenes. The news crew is frantically searching for the bomb, hoping to guide the police when they arrive, but they're facing difficulties-it's nowhere to be found. As Philip delivers his speech, a few members of the news crew attempt to open the door, causing him to panic. He issues a threat of detonation to deter them and halt any further efforts. As all this is unfolding police detective David, aged 30, arrives, swiftly comprehending the situation, in an attempt to terminate Philips master plan, David tries to take the rains and communicate with Philip, being immediately shut down. As Philip concludes his speech, he taunts Detective David, brandishing the detonator. In response, David readies his firearm, his finger tight on the trigger. A gunshot is heard, plunging the scene into darkness. As we fade back into the scene, we see Philips lifeless body laying across the couch. The police detective runs in, revealing that there is no bomb, it was all a lie to begin with.

Great short, especially for a first time Director!

I got a link from a friend to see this short, and damn was it a good choice. Not only is this good acting for a student film, but I heard the budget was basically nothing. The premise of the film was simple yet powerful. It relates to common struggles each generation has dealt with in some form from the system of society letting them down. Without spoiling the film, the depth of the protagonist makes you think about how things could be if we took a moment to look at how things are. The film had a serious message, but in moments it made us laugh, which is why I recommend this film, and why I think Daniel Caddy will go far in this industry!
