The series is based on the Marissa Stapley novel of the same name. The book was a New York Times bestseller and a selection for Reese Witherspoon’s Reese’s Book Club.

The official logline states that Taylor-Joy “stars as a young woman who left behind the life of crime she was raised in years ago, but must now embrace her darker, criminal side one final time in a desperate attempt to escape her past.”

Jonathan Tropper and Cassie Pappas are adapting the book for the screen and will serve as co-showrunners and executive producers. Tropper executive produces under his overall deal with Apple. Witherspoon and Lauren Neustadter executive produce for Hello Sunshine, a part of Candle Media. Taylor-Joy executive produces under her Ladykiller Films banner. Apple Studios will produce.

Netflix has ordered the limited series adaptation of “East of Eden” from writer Zoe Kazan, Variety has learned.

The series was originally reported to be in development at the streamer in June 2022 with Florence Pugh attached to star as Cathy. Now, Christopher Abbott is set to play Adam, with Mike Faist as Charles and Hoon Lee as Lee. Netflix has ordered seven episodes.

Based on the John Steinbeck novel of the same name, the series is said to “explore the multigenerational saga of the Trask family, focusing new attention on its indelible antihero, Cathy Ames.”

In addition to writing, Kazan serves as executive producer and co-showrunner. Her grandfather, Elia Kazan, directed the original film adaptation starring James Dean. John Cena has zoomed into his latest action franchise and is slated to star in Apple Original Film “Matchbox,” the latest feature adaptation of an iconic Mattel toy brand.

Sam Hargrave is set to direct the live-action feature film with Skydance co-producing alongside Mattel.

David Coggeshall and Jonathan Tropper are penning the script.

“Matchbox” will be inspired by Mattel’s iconic real-world die-cast toy vehicle line of the same name. The legendary Matchbox brand was invented in 1953 by automotive enthusiast Jack Odell to solve a challenge for his daughter, who was allowed to take a toy to school only if it was small enough to fit in a matchbox. When his daughter’s school friends too began clamouring for a “matchbox car,” an iconic brand was born. The high standards of authenticity for Matchbox die-cast cars have driven the brand for over 70 years and generations of fans.

When casting a love interest for Alex Levy on “The Morning Show,” it was Jennifer Aniston who recommended Jon Hamm for the part of tech billionaire boyfriend Paul Marks.

Fans of the Apple TV+ drama (and/or basic privacy laws) know how well that worked out for the two characters at the end of Season 3, but Hamm may still reprise the role. Speaking with IndieWire, the Emmy-winning “Mad Men” actor — who is nominated twice this year for “The Morning Show” and “Fargo” — confirmed that. He voiced his interest in leading a feature rom-com with Aniston, a fellow nominee.

“I have no idea what it would look like,” Hamm said. “I think it would just have to be funny and fun and it would let us do what we both do very well, which is be charming and funny and compelling. I certainly wouldn’t say no to that.”

According to Deadline, Apple has just acquired a new sci-fi after arising as the victor in a bidding war. The new sci-fi film in question is The Corsair Code, which will be adapted by Jonathan Topper from his own short story. Chris Hemsworth has also been attached as the star of the film. Topper had brought the project to Hemsworth and his producing partner Ben Grayson. Both Hemsworth and Grayson will be producing the film through their company, Wild State, while Apple is the studio that backs it.

The plot is currently being kept under wraps. However, it is being described as “a high-octane, sci-fi mystery adventure.” Topper is no stranger to TV as he already has collaborated with Apple on the series Your Friends and Neighbors as the creator and showrunner. That show is currently in production with Jon Hamm starring in the series and also taking on executive producing duties.

The news comes as Levy is about to detonate the summer with his directed Marvel Studios feature Deadpool & Wolverine, which some tracking services have at a $200M opening and others as the biggest R-rated domestic start of all-time, beating the original Deadpool‘s $132.4M.

Maureen Bharoocha, Yoko Okumura and Marshall Tyler were chosen to participate in the six-month program which offers masterclasses focused on building and sustaining a career as a working episodic director. The program also will feature discussions with seasoned industry professionals focusing on the craft and business of directing, opportunities to participate as shadowing directors on Apple Studios series, and a “one-of-a-kind experience” in Apple Park tailored to inspire innovation and creativity.

Craig Gillespie (Physical) is set to direct the first two episodes and executive produce. Additionally, Emmy winners Greg Yaitanes and Stephanie Laing are set to direct three episodes each. The project reunites Lee and Tropper who worked together on Max’s Warrior, a series created by the latter. The project hails from Apple Studios.

Tropper, who served as showrunner for Apple’s See and has an overall deal with the streamer, created Your Friends & Neighbors and will serve as showrunner. He will exec produce alongside Hamm, Gillespie and Connie Tavel.

Bae has most recently been seen in Fallout, Special Ops: Lioness and Blue Bloods. Additionally, she has appeared in the feature film Dakota, and on Broadway in the Tony-winning revival of The Skin of Our Teeth, directed by Lileana Blain-Cruz. She is repped by Boals, Winnett & Associates and Center Stage Management.

Succession’s J. Smith-Cameron is bringing her immense talent to the West Coast.

Based on Heather Morris’ bestselling novel, the limited series is inspired by the real-life story of Jewish Holocaust survivors Lali and Gita Sokolov. “Lali (played by Hauer-King) arrived at Auschwitz-Birkenau in 1942, and shortly after arrival, he was made one of the tätowierer (tattooists), charged to ink identification numbers onto fellow prisoners’ arms,” reads the official description. “One day, he meets Gita (Anna Próchniak) when tattooing her prisoner number on her arm.
