Dirty Laundry

What a gem! I loved so much about it; I hardly know where to begin. The dialogue, casting, acting, pacing, character development, cinematography, spot-on, late-90s details (I forgot Wild Cherry Pepsi existed, but now I miss it) all harmonized so (seemingly) effortlessly, it was likewise effortless for me as a viewer to relate to and invest in the characters. I want more movies/stories like this in my life. The friendship between Eric and Kyle is maybe one of the healthiest relationships I've seen depicted on screen. It's how I want my relationships to look and feel -- full of honesty, warmth, playfulness, creativity and vulnerability. Perfect? Nope. Flawless? Well, of course not. Both of the main characters have some areas where they need to grow, just like the rest of humanity. Yet the film gently holds up this beautiful example of humans being good to one another, somehow never veering off into trite/saccharine nor preachy/heavy-handed territory. And there's plenty of symbolism to analyze too (I really liked the use of different laundry cycles at different points in the film, and I am still mulling over how profoundly they represent different relationship dynamics). I laughed. I cried. I cried some more. I just watched it a couple of hours ago, and I already want to see it again. Have I convinced you yet?! If you can, please, do go see it.
