Written by Russell Owen and Chris Reading, Somnus is an upcoming sci-fi thriller that explodes with impressive, old school practical visual effects. How did this film that looks like a cross between Interstellar and Event Horizon slip through our fingertips until now? Who cares, we found it!
Epic Pictures Group (Turbo Kid, Tales of Halloween) has acquired the worldwide sales and distribution rights to Somnus with a plan to release it this year as a multi-platform release (what else?).
Synopsis:
Somnus follows the crew of an aging cargo ship on their final mission working the monotonous Earth-Mars shipping route.
Malfunctions aboard the ship force a change off course to Somnus, a remote asteroid colony. The crew members soon discove [Continued ...]...

I’ve got a great trailer you've gotta watch for an upcoming sci-fi film called Somnus. The movie was directed by Chris Reading from a script he co-wrote with Russell Owen.
The story follows the crew of “an aging cargo ship on their final mission working the monotonous Earth-Mars shipping route. Malfunctions aboard the ship force a change of course to Somnus, a remote asteroid colony. The crew soon discovers the inhabitants of the colony have a dark past, and troubling plans for the future of mankind.”
This is the first feature film that Reading has made and it looks like it could be a pretty awesome movie! According to the press release, the film was inspired by the iconic work of Douglas Trumbull in such films as 2001: A Space Odyssey and Close Encounters of the Third Kind. Reading also wanted to use practical effect techniques to make the...

Early production on Somnus was started in 2013. Since then, the film has been completed and it is set to show in Cannes, this year. From director Chris Reading, the film blends horror with science fiction as one crew's shipping mission goes very wrong. The film stars: Rohit Gokani, Victoria Oliver, Tom Bonington and Klemens Koehring. As well, Epic Pictures has picked up the film as a sales agent (Variety) and the film is expected to release later this year. The film's first trailer is hosted here. The story is a mysterious one. A commercial vessel changes its course and sets its sail for the remote colony Somnus. This burgeoning settlement has a dark past, which could effect all of mankind. The word Somnus has its roots in Latin. Responsible for words like insomnia, the word means sleepiness. Also, the Roman god of sleep was named Somnus. So, the film's themes...
