I REALLY wanted to like this BUT...

I REALLY wanted to like this a lot but this is a really WEIRD "faith based" movie. Maybe something was lost in the editing of transitioning from the big screen to Lifetimetv?

This started out so good before the husband's death with a really good foundation of the couple and their life together. But, everything after his death was very confusing, heavily reliant on embarrassing tropes.

Unfortunately it's the writing not her "grief." And that's a real shame given the excellent Black cast. I was surprised to see the excellent actors who unfortunately were saddled with this bad script and screenplay.

Faith desperately needed substance abuse treatment AND grief therapy. Doesn't seem like she's got either to the extent her alcoholism, substance abuse, child neglect and other behaviors indicated. No amount of "church" or swelling gospel music in the world is going to "heal" the very deep issues she displayed. God and most modern Black churches embrace therapy AND our need to work with behavioral health PROFESSIONALS. Instead, Faith just kept lying to herself and everybody around her.

A lot of it just didn't make sense. There was absolutely no need for the HS friend. I wasn't sure if she and the singer/HS girlfriend were going to end up in bed together themselves. Since the goal was to make this a happy ever after story by hooking her up with a man by the end, it would have been better for the high school friend to have been a male who turned out to be a positive influence in her and her son's life. Personally, I would have preferred seeing Faith become a woman who stood on her own in a healthy way in spite of tribulation. It was just all over the place.

God is NOT a genie. This movie uses God as a wish granter and that's just not the way faith works! Even people of faith go through things. Just like God gives us doctors, he gives us licensed therapists and other support.

Most modern pastors know that they do NOT fill that role on their own unless they have a behavioral health degree (which some do!) There's no indication that this particular pastor had that type of formal training. The movie just seemed to simplify her behavioral health issues as something that could be prayed away and hugged away. But, that's not the way life works with prayer.

It would have been nice for this to have been a bit more grounded with some level of realism. Perhaps the next time they want to make a movie like this, they might want to consult with modern Black churches not trite, stereotypical nonsense.

    Wait to stream it

Spouse said, "Let's go to a movie tonight!" I said, "Sure!" We paid $32 for the tickets. You will probably be able to stream it for maybe six bucks at the most, and you will get as much out of it as we did tonight. The misfortunes that befall these characters are generally of their own making. The story is somewhat contrived, especially (1) the event that brings on the hard times and (2) the event that does so much to clear things up. God gets credit for both. I really could not see how Faith got faith. The preacher at the end sounds a lot like Joel Osteen, which is either something you will like or something you won't. There is a "making of the film" bit at the end to show everyone how hard they worked on it.

    Outstanding

This was such a captivating movie. There was so many layers within plot from stressors of marriage, challenges of parenthood, family togetherness... and of course Paula Patton played the heck out of the role. Wonderful movie.

Added treat is that it was an independent film. You have to love, great movies and storylines produced without a massive budget. The chemistry among the characters came through the film.

The message of faith.... Wow, you wouldn't expect this coming out in late spring/ summer. But it carried a cinematic punch that left me in a deep pause and reflection on life. You can't beat a well written Christian movie.

Go see it. A refreshing take on Faith

As an avid movie go, or I can be pretty critical, but this was a musty movie and very well produced.

Great acting all around, especially Paula. Great casting, well written, great character, development, some comic, relief, and strong cinematography. It was a very captivating movie that brought real emotions, lessons, and entertainment.

It was a different take on typical faith movies. It avoided the typical clichés with religious or minority led movies.

I think it would be a great movie for anyone to watch, including teenagers or even non-faith based individuals.

Movies, at their core, should be entertaining, and this was the entire film.

Great chemistry between the characters and everyone in the theater, enjoyed it and was talking about it afterwards.

I wish more people could see it.

    A fine film

I saw part of this movie last night and I fell asleep and hope they show it again but what I saw moved me very much. I best remember Paula Patton for her role as one of Ethan Hunt's agents in Mission Impossible Ghost Protocol. However, she proves she can do serious acting in this part as a woman who loses the man she loves and struggles to keep her faith. Movies that show religion in a positive way are rare and that is so sad. This is a time when we all need God now more then ever.
