    Worse Movies Exist

I'm giving it 2 stars only because the creature was a notch above what I expected and the production values were not the worst I've seen. I'm sure the filmmakers enjoyed making it, and that's great. It's like watching someone else's vacation videos. They enjoy them greatly, but there's nothing to make them very compelling to anyone else. Maybe a few moments of interest every now and then, but mostly you're just hoping for it to end so you can get on with the rest of your evening. I have about 15 minutes left and writing a review helps pass the time.

Bottom line, any randomly selected movie will statistically result in a more enjoyable experience.

    Loved it

I loved it. I saw this movie at a film festival and it kept me involved, I was entertained and it made me think. I always judge movies on whether or not I still think about the film later and if it was memorable. To me, that's all that matters and this movie had interesting characters, mystery and twists that showed depth I didn't expect. Many creators do the best they can with the budget they have and this is a low budget film, I see so many people criticize movies simply because they're low budget. Big budgets don't always make good movies and they did a terrific job sharing their idea and story with very little and that impresses me most of all. If you like new creators, indie films, actual story telling, you should enjoy this one. Would love to see more from them!

Delightfully eccentric mix of comedy, thriller, and sci-fi.

The Eye of the Salamander is a delightfully eccentric mix of comedy, thriller, and sci-fi that delivers an intriguing yet light-hearted cinematic experience. The story centers on Dr. Hiscock, a quirky archaeology professor whose discovery of a mysterious Aztec artifact unleashes chaos. With a tone that alternates between suspense and humor, the film explores themes of identity, the supernatural, and human folly.

Director Pavel Nikolajev crafts a narrative filled with unexpected twists, balancing absurdity with genuine thrills. The performances, particularly by Nick Karner as Dr. Hiscock, bring a blend of charm and hilarity. While the plot occasionally leans into the ridiculous, it suits the film's playful spirit.

The Eye of the Salamander offers a fun watch for audiences seeking a fresh take on archaeological adventures with a comedic twist. Its mix of wit and mystery makes it a standout in its genre.

A Twisted, Mysterious Gem with That Perfect B-Movie Charm

If you're tired of the same recycled plots and soulless blockbusters, The Eye of The Salamander is the weird little cinematic surprise you've been waiting for. This film is a glorious dive into mystery and madness - with a plot so twisted, you'll question everything by the end credits (in a good way).

Dr. Hiscock is instantly iconic - imagine a mix between a slightly unhinged academic and your favorite conspiracy YouTuber, but with better hair. The movie doesn't take itself too seriously, which is exactly why it works. You get suspense, laughs, and genuine what-the-heck-is-happening moments all rolled into one.

It's fresh. It's funny. It's delightfully offbeat. Think 70s/80s sci-fi mystery vibes, sprinkled with oddball energy and a surprising emotional core. Definitely a standout in the indie scene - and a reminder that B-movies still have bold stories to tell.

Highly recommend for fans of cult classics, midnight movies, and anyone who wants something different.

Gripping Sci-Fi Thriller with Depth and Style

Gripping Sci-Fi Thriller with Depth and Style The Eye of the Salamander is a slow-burn sci-fi thriller that rewards patient viewers with a deeply immersive experience. At the center is Professor Hiscock, a reclusive scientist whose experiments with memory and perception spiral into a chilling mystery. The film masterfully blends psychological suspense with cerebral science fiction, creating a world that feels both surreal and disturbingly real. With striking visuals, a haunting score, and a narrative full of twists, this is indie filmmaking at its finest. A must-see for fans of Annihilation or Primer.
