The rotten path to power

This is an impressive dissection of the Soviet system under Stalin, methodically detailing a would-be head of the future KGB and his path to power. In the beginning, he comes across as even likeable, he is happy and cheerful in a hearty good mood, but gradually his path becomes more precarious with more and more victims, betrayals and treasons, and in the end it is done for him. The dialogue is extremely pertinent and intelligent, it is a closed chamber drama that becomes more and more claustrophobic, but although everything is contrived, the portrayal makes a very authentic impression. Moreover, the creation of the film is intimately connected with both the invasion of Ukraine and the assassination of Alexei Navalny.
