VIGDIS tells the true story of Vigdís Finnbogadóttir, a well-behaved perfectionist who wants to rebel against the norm. She is an ordinary girl and longs to have the same opportunities as her younger brother. The series is about this unique woman, her triumphs and sorrows, insecurities and self-doubts and her remarkably courageous decision to run for president in 1980 when equal rights were still far out of reach. A woman running for president was already shocking, but the fact that she was a single mother made it almost unimaginable. The series concludes on the monumental day when she becomes the first woman in history to be elected president.
