Malice

I wanted to love "Malice." A vengeful tutor, a dysfunctional rich family, a sun-drenched Greek setting... what's not to like? Turns out, everything.

Jack Whitehall's Adam is less "chilling villain" and more "awkward dinner guest," his smirks undercut by a script that mistakes obviousness for suspense. David Duchovny's Jamie is the only one who seems to realize something's off, but even he can't salvage the slog.

The first three episodes are a masterclass in wasted potential: glacial pacing, laughable family dynamics, and a complete lack of tension. I bailed after Ep 3, but I would be shocked if the season ever recovers.

A cringefest. Skip it and rewatch The White Lotus or check out BBC's The Guest instead.

Jack Whitehall as Adam is so smug pretentious that he makes it a hard watch. He looked familiar but did not realize he's mostly done comedy until I read a few reviews. The reviews have also confirmed I'm wasting my time continuing with this. David and Charlotte are the strongest actors in the series to me with Christine Adams as support. I would not dare compare it to White Lotus as others have. It closes reminds me of the The Girlfriend with Olivia Cooke and Robin Wright. What the girlfriend did better was give you depth and character development. I enjoyed it as one of those disposable Rich White Woman in Gorgeous Houses type thrillers like Nicole Kidman and Julianne Moore specialize in. With Malice, I don't care what happens, that's what's missing from this series. Best part for me is the the title sequence, the art work is good.

I really enjoyed the series, and it's quite underrated. Don't let the first half hour put you off, but just go with the flow and enjoy it. It gets more and more exciting, and the tension and psychotic sociopathy reach levels I never expected. It's almost like indulging in a sinful pleasure.

I also really enjoyed the music, and the cinematography and scenes in Greece are wonderful.

Anyway... I hope my review helps those who haven't seen it. Give it a chance if you like psychopathic thrillers where the tension slowly builds, and which also offer some important messages and lessons.

Don't expect fireworks, but again.... it is for sure worth watching! !

MALICE, like THE WHITE LOTUS is built around beautiful locations with vapid, callous, irresponsible too too rich people. In today's world, this is less and less entertaining to me.

The acting is excellent with Jack Whitehall being the standout.

But, like most streaming shows, could have been told in 3-4 episodes. The tension wore thin about halfway there.

Shame on the creators for not warning viewers about the repeated animal torture in this show. I don't even know if it's legal. Even though I wanted to carry on watching to the end, I can't and won't. Also the main character is annoying and empty but not in a believable way.

A shame because otherwise it would be quiet interesting.
