Borderline

Don't know what's worse - the terrible dialogue? The weak and predictable storyline? Wooden acting? Totally unconvincing characters? I read somewhere that this is a good watch for Blue Lights fans - doesn't touch it. The only positive thing about this series is the location and the beautiful scenery.

Nearly didn't bother with this after reading some of the reviews but glad I persisted.

Yes, she's very abrasive at the beginning but she softens a bit as it goes on.

I liked the fact that the 'cases' are only 2 episodes each. I don't usually binge watch but got through all episodes over a weekend.

Roll on season 2.

I've just watched the third series of Blue Lights, so I can attest that Ireland is well-supplied with seriously good, naturalistic actors and screenwriters who know the territory they're covering.

So how can poorly written and acted stuff like this still get air time?

The characters are ill-informed stereotypes.

I suspect the the southern detective is meant to be no nonsense, but she comes across as just plain rude and ill-disciplined. The actress speaks her lines staccato without giving them any meaning.

Her northern counterpart is written as a southerner's conception of what a northerner is like: a stiff-backed man-child whose jaw drops when she tells him she's gay.

One episode was enough for me.

DI Aoife Regan is, as others have noted, so impossibly abrasive that this is painful to watch at points.

She is particularly hard to take in the first two episodes ("Hens", parts 1 and 2). So if you're tempted to watch this (first?) season, I would strongly recommend you skip the first two episodes.

Both DI Aoife Regan and DCI Philip Boyd are given "interesting" backstories, I assume in the hope of making viewers care for them. But I'm afraid I didn't take to either of them.

Well, this is the set up. Sorta like " The Bridge" ( Danish version is phenomenal) or " the Tunnel " ( UK), but in this case it is good ole, Ireland. Where, in the first episode a crime is committed on one side of Ireland and kinda involving the other side ( North and South, respectively), bringing together our two cops.

In the first couple of episodes, Reagan, the female cop, can be a little off putting, but, I feel that the 3 stories that we get in the 6 episodes, are unique enough, and each involving these 2 detectives, merits a decent program, all and all. The actors are all pretty decent, and I can say this is quite bingable over a couple of days. I personally liked it...
