Summaries

  • In a Garo tribal village facing displacement, an elderly couple clings to their broken home and the hope of seeing their grandson, a firefighter from Chittagong, Bangladesh. Excitement turns to sorrow as he fails to arrive, unaware of the tragedy that claimed his life. Their hearts ache with the weight of loss, and the once joyous village weeps in silence, leaving their simple home echoing with unfulfilled love and longing. The old couple never learns why their grandson didn't come, leaving them with an eternal mystery to accompany their grief.
  • An elderly married couple leads a simple life in a region of Bangladesh. The man drives cattle and catches fish while the woman feeds the chickens and sits on a chair to read aloud from the Bible. Thanks to the gestures used to calmly capture the characters and their lives on the screen without overdoing it, the film appears to be a documentary at first glance. Their environment is far from decent or affluent, but their slow and lowly attitude blends well with nature's rhythm. A joyful stir is caused in their peaceful life when the news of their grandson due to visit them from Chittagong, where he works as a fireman, is heard. As the film unfolds, we get more information required to understand their life. The man, who goes fishing by the lake to present his grandson with a hearty meal, spots a neighbor about to leave the town. While the film doesn't dwell on it, the time in which the village or the whole tribe goes through the crisis of migration is dismissed by the man waiting for his grandson while completing his daily routines. But his grandson never arrives. Judging from the TV news coverage heard off-screen, his son must have gotten into an accident and died in Chittagong, where he was carrying out rescue work for a disaster. With no knowledge of this, the elderly couple keeps waiting for their grandson up to the minute the film ends.—HAM Yeon Sun
