However, fans shouldn't go into the prequel series expecting every event to line up with what we learned about Sheldon's life on "The Big Bang Theory." For example, "Young Sheldon" introduces us to another child prodigy in the form of Paige Swanson (Mckenna Grace), who's Sheldon's intellectual rival and first crush. She's a memorable part of Sheldon's childhood, so why isn't she acknowledged on "Big Bang Theory?"

The answer is simple: bad timing. "Big Bang Theory" ended after season 12, robbing fans of the chance to find out what happened to Paige after the events of "Young Sheldon." “Survivor” and “The Amazing Race” are headlining CBS’ winter schedule. They will join the network’s new gameshow “Hollywood Squares” as well as its upcoming drama starring Morris Chestnut, “Watson.”

This winter season starts with CBS airing the 82nd Annual Golden Globes hosted by Nikki Glaser on Jan. 5. Then, starting on Jan. 8, the network will dive back into television with game shows and encores. “The Price Is Right at Night” and Season 2 of the Damon Wayans Jr. and Jeannie Mai-hosted “Raid the Cage” will premiere at that time.

That will be followed by the series premiere of “Hollywood Squares” on Jan. 9 before the show moves to its new home on Wednesday nights. Starring award-winning daytime talk show host Drew Barrymore in the center square, the series will be hosted by “CBS Mornings” co-host Nate Burleson. Two contestants will play tic-tac-toe with celebrity guests for the chance to win money and prizes.

CBS has set winter premiere dates for new and returning series on its 2024-25 primetime schedule, including Tracker, Matlock, FBI and NCIS franchises, Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage, Watson, and more.

New medical drama Watson starring Morris Chestnut, which premieres January 26 following the AFC Championship game, will move to its regular time period beginning Sunday, Feb. 16 at 9 p.m. Originally scheduled for the 10 p.m. slot, Watson is now sandwiched between Tracker at 8 p.m and The Equalizer, which caps off the night in its new time period at 10 p.m.

Depending on the audience, sometimes an endless string of celebrity cameos is enough to keep folks tuning in long after the novelty of the original hook has worn off.

It's probably not fair to say that a show as beloved as "The Big Bang Theory" relied heavily on splashy cameos to remain buzzworthy, but the rate at which the sitcom deployed them felt a tad shameless. CBS is ready to see more of Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage.

The network has ordered nine more episodes of the comedy, a spinoff of Young Sheldon that follows Sheldon’s older brother, Georgie (Montana Jordan), and his wife Mandy (Emily Osment) as they face the challenges of adulthood, parenting and marriage. The additional episodes will bring the show’s order to 22 for the season.

Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage is the third show in the Big Bang Theory franchise, and is set between the time periods of the long-running original and prequel Young Sheldon, whose seven-season run ended in May. Chuck Lorre, Steven Molaro and Steve Holland are co-creators and executive producers of the show from Warner Bros. Television, Lorre’s long-time studio home.

Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage will hit the one-year mark, now that CBS has handed a back-nine order to the Young Sheldon spinoff, upping its Season 1 episode count to 22 episodes.

The full-season pick-up comes less than two weeks after the freshman comedy’s Oct. 17 premiere, which opened to 6.6 million total viewers and a 0.5 demo rating, down in viewers but steady in the demo vs. Young Sheldon‘s final season (7.3 mil/0.5); TVLine readers gave the premiere an average grade of “B+,” with 92% planning to stay tuned.

It’s two-for-two with CBS’ new scripted series so far this fall. Just like the network renewed drama Matlock after two airings, CBS has now picked up additional episodes of comedy Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage at the same mark. The Young Sheldon spinoff has received a Back 9 order and will produce a full season of 22 episodes.

The news comes after strong ratings start for the multi-camera comedy. According to VideoAmp and Paramount+ internal data (CBS is in a contractual dispute with Nielsen), its premiere episode amassed 10.6 million multi-platform viewers in its first seven days, up vs. Young Sheldon’s final season premiere in February.

That was followed by a solid Week 2 showing, with Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage only slipping 2.4% from its premiere linear viewership in Live+Same Day, going neck-and-neck with Matlock for the title of most watched entertainment program on Thursday (and #2 and #3 for the week behind CBS’ Tracker.

CBS’ bet on the ever-expanding “Big Bang Theory” universe is paying off. The network has given the comedy’s second spinoff show, “Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage,” a full season order extending Season 1 from 13 to 22 episodes.

It’s not a big surprise CBS would be eager to continue with this particular show. The premiere episode of “Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage” secured 10.6 million multiplatform viewers in its first seven days, according to VideoAmp and internal data from Paramount+. That’s even more viewers than the final season premiere for “Young Sheldon.” Streaming for this new comedy across Paramount+, CBS.com and the CBS App was up 72% compared to the Season 7 debut of “Young Sheldon,” based on average minute audience metrics.

The news comes roughly two weeks after the series premiere, with the show launching on Oct. 17. The show serves a spinoff of “Young Sheldon,” which was itself a prequel to “The Big Bang Theory.”

The second episode of the Montana Jordan and Emily Osment-led sitcom averaged 6.40 million total viewers, retaining almost all of its premiere viewership, which scored 6.56 million viewers, according to Nielsen live-plus-same-day ratings provided to Wbtv (CBS and Nielsen are currently in the midst of a contract dispute).
