In the same vein as Friendship

Tim plays almost an identical character from his movie Friendship. He plays this well however. The show for now has time to get weirder, in a good way. Looking good forward to see where it lands. If the writing gets stronger and plot gets wilder this could be really good. Time will tell. Tim's yelling never gets old.

Yes please and more

First episode sucked me right in. Another gem by Tim Robinson exploring the fragile male psyche. I won't spoil what leads him to be distracted and obsess when he should be enjoying his success but it has me wondering what other rabbit holes this show will take me down. Looking forward to more episodes. Sunday nights are back on HBO again.

So far so good...

I can't know how to hear any more about tables, which is why I am more to happy to talking about chairs. Tim Robinson is simply too good in this thrilling and unraveling mystery about a company that is both everywhere and nowhere at the same time. This version of Tim Robinson's character is a bit different than the one he played in Friendship. This man has a lot to lose. He has respect from his coworkers, a family that loves him, a car that he doesn't have to share for his wife's flower business. He has it all. I fully expect this series to push the boundaries when it comes to shows about office furniture, but for now we're on chairs...and this show delivers the chairs. Unlike his recent feature film "Friendship" (which has absolutely no friendship in it), this show delivers the goods immediately, and I for one expect it to continue doing so until the very end. A++

A Very Important Show

Ron has an awful pillow. Everyone can relate to that. It's just the worst.

Ron's firm builds shopping malls, and Ron has just received a promotion: He'll be overseeing development of their latest. The tiny model looks really good. The real thing, once completed, will incorporate unique artworks. That sounds great.

Unfortunately, during the big announcement, in front of a room full of his peers, something terrible happens to Ron. His life will be forever changed by this dramatic incident.

Later in the first episode, Ron eats half of a Deviled Egg from a doggie bag and finds himself on a strange toilet in a mysterious warehouse. Strange drama ensues and Ron doesn't even have time to properly wipe. He quickly packs the backside of his trousers with a makeshift TP diaper and gets the heck outta there!

That was a close call.

I'm shivering as I write this.

The Chair Company is probably the best show currently on TV. Maybe ever. I've only seen the first episode, but I'm pretty sure it will only get better.

Thumbs up. All the stars.

You'll know immediately

If you like Tim Robinson's work you will love this. If you don't like Tim Robinson's work you will hate this. If you've never been exposed to Tim Robinson's work you will know within the first 2 minutes of the show if this is for you or not.

As a huge TR fan, this is possibly the hardest any of his shows has made me laugh.

Hits On All Fronts For Me

This just works for me. Tim Robinson has a direct line to my funny bone, and I've really enjoyed watching him branch out into drama. This is surreal and perfect to me, looking forward to more. I forgot that reviews have to be a certain length to post them, so I'll just say that it's interesting, the chairs.

Primetime Emmy Award Winning Comedy Series

As I watch the genius that is Tim Robinson I can't help but wonder if the quality and nuance of his acting is overlooked by the hilariously offbeat dialogue and odd situations in every scene of The Chair Company.

Only someone with Robinson's talent can make this work so effectively.

Insert any other modern comedy actor into the role of Ron Trosper and The Chair Company would come off as far less believable.

Make no mistake about it........ Tim Robinson is an actor and a damn fine one.

Robinson has managed to create a new type of comedy over the last few years and has achieved the impossible task of making each series better and better.

Thankfully The Chair Company rises to the very top.

Robinson's comedy style may appear simple to the casual watcher, but ask any true fan of his work and they will gladly take you down the rabbit hole of his genius.

Robinson has achieved a cult following among his loyal fans and I consider him among the greatest modern comedy writers and actors working today.

The Chair Company will undoubtedly win a Primetime Emmy for outstanding comedy series and I look forward to every future project Robinson creates.

They love takin that thing

This show is going to take us deeeeeep into the rabbit hole and it's gonna get weird. Tim and Zach are comedic geniuses. I can sense a dark eerie weirdness brewing like we saw in Friendship and it's gonna give us whiplash. Tim's physical comedy is on point and and the entire first episode leaves you on the edge of your seat in anticipation of what's coming. That f*%%in egg!

A Weird but Fascinating Start

Watched the first episode - bizarre in the best way. What starts as a simple office accident quickly spirals into a surreal mystery packed with awkward humor and unease. Tim Robinson perfectly balances frustration, paranoia, and comedy. A weird but fascinating start that definitely kept me curious for what's next .

Terrible

I haven't left a review in about a decade, but felt compelled to do so for this show.

It is unwatchable. I kept waiting for it to get funny or interesting, but it never happened.

The problem is that the main character is extremely unlikeable. I actually couldn't stand watching him and how he treated people.

There was no comedy to speak of. I didn't laugh even once. I didn't smile even once. I didn't even chuckle in my head even once.

I do not know who this show would appeal to. Perhaps someone who enjoys listening to an angry person berate someone on the phone or yell at his son because he had a bad day at work. Nauseating.

The strange and intriguing world of Tim Robinson

I'm new to the comic genius of Tim Robinson, and I do think he is a comic genius. He somehow has created a universe with his characters which baffles and bemuses me. I admire how he has leveraged what is odd and interesting about him (as a comic) into curious, weird, and hilarious characters.

His latest is for this latest series is off to a great start. I look forward to seeing how he draws us into his strange world and odd paranoia. My only disappointment is that I cannot consume all the episodes at once. I'll settle for waiting week to week.

I like weird shows

Not familiar with the cast but I picked this because of how good the poster is! I hope it's not AI. The story has my teeth gritting while having dinner. I was looking for a series to relax to and this is the opposite. And i love it! I hope it gets weirder and weirder. But if this will come to an "alien/supernatural" at the end. Scratch this review.

Decent Into Insanity

Interesting premise but too many threads. Is the story about a hard-to-locate company that makes office chairs? Or is it about a not-very-likeable guy who is promoted, proving "The Peter Principle"? Some guy who easily cracks under pressure, to the extent of hiding under his desk? Or a guy who obsessively latches onto minor questions, obsessive-compulsive disorder? Or just an unpleasant guy it's difficult to care about?

My takeaway is that the guy is like a bull in a china shop with no self-awareness spiraling into insanity. Not my cup of tea.

Unrelatable

I think I have to care or relate to the main character, and this guy is... Unrealistic. A cartoon version of a Corp drone. So I find his delusions annoying and really uninteresting. I don't know what is going on - which is fine - but I don't care either. I usually love offbeat shows, but this one is just boring. Not sure about the show's appeal.

Shouldn't a comedy be funny?

They seem to have completely left out any trace of comedy at all from this show. Seriously is that the meta joke with this!? It's dull, v little happens, and nothing remotely funny occurs at all. Not all comedies are laugh out loud and alt comedies can be dry, cringey or dark, but this has literally none of those things. The performances are just exaggerated and surreal, but without a single hint of humour, intrigue, action or charm. What an utter waste of time.

Oddly gripping

Someone suggested this show to me, and honestly I put it off because I cannot stand Tim Robinson's schtick. I've pretty much panned on this site everything he's done.

I finally relented and glad I did. Yes, it's still a weird show, and yes, Robinson is his usual awkward self, but he's finally found a balance that doesn't make him a chore to watch. This Robinson I can handle.

The acting, pacing, and story are all top notch. Yes, it's silly, but has just enough intrigue and comedy to help it glide right along. I find myself -needing- to watch the next episode immediately at the end of each, a feeling I haven't had since Breaking Bad.

Kudos, Mr. Robinson. Maybe I was wrong about you.

Absolute, relatable cringe gold

I was sold on the line "You gave me that paper too hard!" in episode one. That's when I knew I was in for a funny, weird ride.

I see a lot of people saying it's similar to the movie "Friendship," but I feel like it's just a long, continuous, awesome episode of "I think You Should Leave." Friendship was more cinematic, but this feels like an ITYSL skit that just keeps going and doesn't let up.

What also makes it so great, is how relatable it is. Not just for people who work in an office, but for people who thrive in any kind of society where we are drowning in a sea of mundane social norms and expectations.

Gets tiring...FAST!

I love this plot device, a small seemingly innocuous event spiraling out of control in ways no one ever saw coming. When it's done properly, it's very entertaining, but that does not apply to this show. In successful examples, the protagonist starts out on an even keel and slowly gets driven to the point of insanity as the surrounding events get more and more ludicrous. The problem here is that Tim Robbins starts out on level 10, so there's nowhere to go. And as you can imagine, when you start out on level 10, it gets annoying and exhausting REAL FAST! Another minor quibble, and I've read this in a few of the other critiques, is the incessant box checking for the sake of the "modern audience". What could have been great ends up being tedious!

It's supposed to be weird

There are too many people giving it 1 star because they don't know Tim Robinson's shtick. It's weird and crazy and I think it's hilarious. If you like ITYSL then you'll enjoy this. If that's not your cup of tea then stay away. You're not going to find anything else like this on HBO.

The plot is great and I can't wait to see where it goes.

Tedious

Not a great premise which is then blandly executed. No idea why people enjoy this. If I find myself skipping through predictable moments to get to the next plot point, I know I'm watching a poorly written stinker. That's all this is. I won't be tuning in for any more episodes after the second.

Now this review is long enough.

Tiresome, but maybe it bc will get better.

Comedy is a misnomer. Nothing to even smile at in first episode, much less laugh.

Too much hollering and absurd behavior from main character. Someon who have taken his sorry ass out. And wife would have chucked him to the curb the first time he screamed at her.

Mystery could be interesting though. Too bad the he main character isn't worth caring about.

Much to do about nothing

In the first place, this is nothing to do with a comedy. It has nothing to do with anything. It's about a dysfunctional man and a dysfunctional company who has a dysfunctional family and works with a bunch of crazy nuts. These characters, other than the main character is extremely boring extremely weird, and there is a guy whomwalks around the office with a tiny little bubble, blowing wand and blows bubbles to everyone, he doesn't seem to have any job designation, but he's not the worst of it. It's exhausting watching a number of minor incidents turn into a major catastrophe for the character who I was a hoping would be run over by some kind of vehicle in the middle of the office, maybe like a freight train, no luck. This isn't "curb your enthusiasm" which is absurd comedy. This is just absurd.

People think this is comedy?

I'm not familiar with this Tim Robbin's guy, or his other works, but I watched the first episode of this show and man was it terrible!

I did not laugh once, it did not even occur to me to laugh. In fact, I forgot it was supposed to be a comedy.

This dude is annoying to say the least. How people like him, or even think he's funny is beyond me!

He's not likable nor is anyone else in the show for that matter.

There is no way I could make it through another episode of this show if the first episode is this bad.

Sorry not sorry.
