Plot

Ann finds out that she has lung cancer and has a few months to live. She decides to change her will and leave everything to her new husband instead of her brother. She informs her husband, Tom, who is a low level mobster, of the situation. He immediately calls his friend to try to buy his way into a deal with a mob boss. Ann contacts her lawyer to drew up a new will with the charges but before she can go to his office to finalize the procedure, she is informed that she was misdiagnosed. She doesn't have lung cancer but a rare form of pneumonia that mimics cancer. She informs her husband of the good news, but he's reaction isn't overwhelming. Tom has already commented to the deal and without the money from the will, he will have to deal with the mob. He needs to get the money. He tries to convince Ann to get into the deal but Ann is reluctant to work with mobsters. She finally calls her attorney to discuss the situation. Tom advised her against it, since the lawyer wouldn't know all the details. Tom feels trapped and decides to smother his wife in her sleep and make it look like her lungs gave out from the pneumonia. The next morning Tom gets a call from Ann's lawyer informing him that Ann never came in to sign the new will. So, the new will is involved and Tom will get no money. However, the lawyer did advise Ann to give Tom the money for the deal. Tom is despondent, and falls asleep on his couch, when he is woken by a phone call from the NYPD, who have some questions about the cause of his wife's death.
