From serial killer profilers to morally gray antiheroes, these crime thrillers will fill the ‘Dexter: Original Sin’-shaped hole in your watchlist.
The “Dexter” franchise has some serious staying power. What started as a one-of-a-kind crime thriller about a blood-spatter analyst named “Dexter” with a dark secret went on to rack up eight seasons and spawn three connected series: the sequel “Dexter: New Blood,” the prequel “Dexter: Original Sin,” and the upcoming sequel (yes… another sequel) “Dexter: Resurrection.” More than a decade later, audiences still can’t get enough of Dexter Morgan - whether he’s learning to follow his father’s code or trying (and failing) to leave his past behind.
Set years before the events of “Dexter,” “Dexter: Original Sin” goes back to the beginning, following a young Dexter as he learns to balance his need to kill with his father’s strict moral guidelines. It brings everything...

The Season 3 premiere of “Yellowjackets” hit just over 2 million viewers across Showtime and Paramount+ over the weekend.
That puts it just above the Season 2 premiere, which reached nearly 2 million in 2023. Both totals represent a combination of Nielsen measurement of Showtime’s linear airings and Paramount Global’s first-party data regarding streaming.
According to Paramount Global, the episode also achieved the series’ highest streaming viewership ever, with a 58% increase compared to the Season 2 premiere, though it should be noted that this isn’t an apples-to-apples comparison: Season 2 debuted back when Showtime was its own service, whereas Season 3 is being released well after Showtime was rolled into Paramount+, which has a larger subscriber base.
Paramount Global also touts that the “Yellowjackets” Season 3 premiere beat the December 2024 debut of “Dexter: Original Sin” as Showtime’s most-talked about ever on social media, generating 9 million social views and 1 million social engagements during premiere weekend, marking 545% and 1197% increases,...

Season 3’s debut was the most-streamed premiere in the history of “Yellowjackets,” according to Paramount. Severance is definitely punching above its weight with the debut of Season 2, giving Apple TV+ a rare spot on the Nielsen streaming charts.
With the release of the second episode of Season 2, the series drew 622M minutes viewed across all episodes in the U.S. from January 20 to January 26, placing it at No. 5 on the streaming originals list. That’s one spot lower than the series was on the charts the week before, but it is a higher viewing time than the Season 2 debut week, when the series got 589M minutes viewed.
Nielsen says around 43% of the viewing total went to Season 2’s two new episodes, which indicates there is still a pretty big portion of the audience watching or rewatching Season 1. That could bode well for its future trajectory on the charts as the season progresses.

[This story contains spoilers through the finale of Dexter: Original Sin.]
Three years after concluding with Dexter: New Blood, Showtime’s favorite serial killer returned with Dexter: Original Sin. The prequel series stars Patrick Gibson as a younger version of Dexter, with Michael C. Hall providing narration (and a surprising on-camera return as well). Set during Dexter’s earliest days working alongside Miami Metro, Original Sin came packed with returning characters, tropes and Easter eggs aplenty for fans of the original show.
“We had this canon of lore from nine seasons of the show from which to draw,” Dexter franchise veteran and Original Sin showrunner Clyde Phillips told The Hollywood Reporter when launching the 10-episode prequel show (of which he later said he hopes to continue, after Dexter: Resurrection). “If people like Easter eggs, this show is an Easter egg hunt. We would write the shows and start shooting them. Someone would come in and say, ‘Oh gosh,...

The season finale of Dexter: Original Sin arrived on Paramount+ with Showtime on Friday, Feb. 14, and while we're not going to get deep into spoilers here (check out our season finale recap and review), the season ender provided a bit of resolution to the season's various storylines. However, there will still a few things left open-ended — though that makes sense given Original Sin is a prequel.
As of the season finale's streaming premiere on Feb. 14, Paramount+ with Showtime hasn't announced either a renewal or cancellation for Dexter: Original Sin. The fate hasn't yet been confirmed for a series that some viewers might have believed to a be a limited series. Original Sin could be a standalone, but there's also a chance for more.

Spoiler Alert !!!Spoilers ahead for Dexter: Original Sin
The final episode of the prequel series Dexter: Original Sin is set to air this week and has the potential to either add immensely to the lore or royally mess it up. The show is a prequel to Dexter and explores the ethical serial killer’s origins as his adoptive father guides him to channel his killer urges to the right space.
The ninth episode of the season showed a lot of bloodshed and while it felt like a climax, there are still many things to resolve. One of the biggest things that fans are expecting from this finale is a neat tie-up to the original series and a few resolutions of key mysteries, as Dexter Morgan begins his career as a serial killer.

Spoiler Alert: This post contains spoilers from “Code Blues,” the Season 1 finale of “Dexter: Original Sin,” now streaming on Paramount+ With Showtime.
Over the course of just a few weeks in 1991, Dexter Morgan came into his own as a serial killer.
At least that’s how he tells it at the end of the first season of Showtime’s prequel series “Dexter: Original Sin.” In the finale, Dexter (played in his 20s by Patrick Gibson) satisfies the rage of his “dark passenger” by killing his first-ever big bad — Miami Metro Police captain Aaron Spencer (Patrick Dempsey), who, it turns out, was trying to get revenge on his ex-wife by kidnapping and attempting to kill their son, Nicky.
While Dexter has never been the epitome of moral superiority, he has always drawn the line at endangering children. You can thank the traumatized kid who watched his mom be cut to pieces...

Finally, the season finale of Dexter: Original Sin is here, and it does not disappoint. Riddled with tension and blood spatter, episode 10 gives us an in-depth look at Brian’s (Xander Mateo/Roby Attal) life post-Dexter (Patrick Gibson), intense showdowns between Harry (Christian Slater) and Brian as well as Dexter (Patrick Gibson) and Captain Spencer (Patrick Dempsey), and a little resolution that sets us up nicely to glide right on into the events of the original series. Let’s break down the season finale in this week’s recap!
Brian’s life post-Dexter
Episode 10 opens with Brian recounting to his psychiatrist, Dr. Paul Petrie, all the times in his life that Dexter has been taken from him. The first was when Harry took Dexter from Brian’s arms in the shipping container, and we really see how much this impacted Brian, who’d bravely comforted his little brother with...

Note: The following contains spoilers for the “Dexter: Original Sin” Season 1 finale.
The season finale of “Dexter: Original Sin” is here and yes, the bad guy gets got. But in a way, a new bad guy is also fully formed.
Of course, that depends on whether you consider Dexter a bad guy. Sure, seeing him really settle into his kill ritual and start to become the precise killer we eventually come to know is fun, but murder is absolutely wrong. Then again, so is kidnapping, dismembering and trying to kill your own kid, which Aaron Spencer (Patrick Dempsey) definitely did.
After letting the police captain escape in Episode 9, we see Dexter (Patrick Gibson) follow Spencer to a massive ship, where he’s holding his son. Realizing that Dexter has caught up with him, Spencer floods the chamber where Nicky is chained, forcing the serial killer into a choice — save a...

With the Paramount+ prequel series “Dexter: Original Sin” going back in time to explore the formative experiences of 20-year-old avenging serial killer (Patrick Gibson), there’s a hope that it will help turn back the clock for the production community in Miami, which serves as the setting for both it and the original show, “Dexter” (2006-2013). Like its predecessor, “Dexter: Original Sin” does the bulk of its shooting in Los Angeles and Long Beach, but it’s still a good advertisement for what Miami has to offer producers.

“Dexter: Resurrection” is officially in production, which means its cast continues to grow. The latest addition to join is Emmy and Golden Globe Award winner Peter Dinklage.
No official plot synopsis has been revealed just yet, but we do have some intriguing character details. Dinklage isn’t just joining as a series regular, but the actor is said to play the season’s Big Bad villain.
Deadline details, “Dinklage will portray ‘Leon Prater,’ a billionaire venture capitalist. To the world, Leon is a generous philanthropist, but behind his polished exterior lies dark intrigue.” The outlet notes that “Dinklage is playing the big baddy of the season.”
It sounds as though we can expect to see Dinklage’s character appear frequently with Uma Thurman‘s character, Charley. “A former Special Ops officer, Charley worked various high-level private security jobs before taking on her position as Prater’s resourceful and meticulous right-hand woman.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer ran from 1997 to 2003 and had an important role in shaping the tone of The WB network, which later became The CW. Fans loved Buffy for its quick wit, high stakes (I swear no pun was intended), splashy action and deep characters. Recently, reports have been going around that the series could get a revival on Hulu. Now, original series star Sarah Michelle Gellar, Buffy Summers herself, has confirmed that she is indeed working on one. From her Instagram Stories:
So… you might have heard some news this week, but I realize you haven’t heard from me.
Three years ago, I got a call from my dear friend and mentor, Gail Berman. She told me that she wanted me to sit down with Chloé Zhao to hear her take on a potential ‘Buffy’ revival. I was blown away that Chloé even knew who I was, but,...

Though Gellar is now said to be in final talks to play Buffy Summers in the untitled project, she would not be the main focus. The story will reportedly follow the adventures of a new Slayer, with Gellar appearing in a recurring role rather than leading the series.
Nora Zuckerman and Lila Zuckerman are attached to write, showrun, and executive produce, with Eternals director Chloé Zhao set to helm the pilot and executive produce under her Book of Shadows production banner. Gellar would also executive produce along with Gail Berman. Fran Kuzui and Kaz Kuzui...

The fourth season of the Showtime series Dexter saw the title character, a serial killer who targets other killers, going up against a homicidal creep called the Trinity Killer, played by John Lithgow. A family man with a wife and two kids (their home life isn’t as happy as it appears), the Trinity Killer (a.k.a. Arthur Mitchell) would regularly commit cycles of murders that saw him slit a woman’s wrists in her a bathtub, make another woman jump to her death, and bludgeon a man. At first, it was believed he would kill three people each cycle, thus his nickname, but it was later revealed that there was a fourth kill to each cycle: the burial of a young boy. Lithgow did such a great job playing this despicable character, he won an Emmy for it. And we haven’t seen the last of Arthur Mitchell.

Dexter fans everywhere lost their minds not only when Showtime announced a long-awaited sequel to the hit series, but also when news of a prequel hit the airwaves. Dexter: New Blood premiered in November 2021 to underwhelming reviews, and prequel Dexter: Original Sin premiered in December 2024 to raving reviews, and is currently airing on Showtime and Paramount+ with Showtime. With the prequel approaching its end this February, the franchise’s second sequel is gearing up to make a big ole bloody splash—er, excuse me, spatter. Michael C. Hall has revealed that production has officially begun on Dexter: Resurrection and is on track for a summer 2025 premiere.
Hall shared the exciting news when he took to social media to confirm he is, indeed, “looking forward to taking another thrill ride”, and to us taking the ride with him. He of course reprises his role as America’s favorite vigilante serial killer.

With Paramount+ and Showtime prequel series Dexter: Original Sin already proving a hit with fans and critics alike, production is already underway on Dexter: Resurrections, a present day sequel series set after New Blood's trigger happy ending. And in a major casting coup, none other than Beatrix Kiddo herself, Uma Thurman, has joined the show as a series regular.
Oscar and Emmy nominated actor Thurman, who has most recently lent her talents to Paul Schrader's upcoming Richard Gere and Jacob Elordi co-starrer Oh, Canada and Prime Video's Red, White & Royal Blue,...
