A fight to the finish
Sheridan Smith proves what a fine actor she is. The story of the change in the double jeopardy law in the UK is quite complex but this particular case was instrumental in getting a much-needed result.
Her supporting cast were equally well chosen, some spendid performances. This is the kind of emotively-charged but highly competent drama we could and should have more of. It would inspire anyone who feels they are a victim of injustice to pursue their case to the highest level - but it also proves that it takes some guts to do it!
Well done, ITV!

Brilliant drama
This is a fantastic drama , what a courageous lady she was. A brilliant story well told this has fantastic acting throughout. Sheridan Smith is a fantastic actress and she embodies every character she plays. I love watching her. Don't hesitate to watch this drama. You will not be disappointed. It's very poignant and emotional.
Deeply Affecting
If this were fiction, you would think it a bit over the top, however it is true and beggars' belief.
Sheridan Smith portrays Ann Ming, a woman of true strength and conviction, a mother fighting for justice.
Ann reports her daughter Julie missing, but she knows that something is very wrong as she is convinced that Julie would never have disappeared overnight of her own volition.
The police are no help and treat Ann's concerns with flippancy at the beginning and then with condescension when she raises hell (displaying the grit of a working-class Yorkshire woman).
I cannot say too much for those of you who are not familiar with the events of Ann Ming's life, watch it without too much research beforehand and it will hit you between the eyes.
I was not familiar with the whole story, but as the series unfolded, I recalled seeing bits and pieces in the news.
This is a standout series, extremely well-acted, and written.
Ann took on the police, the law, and the politicians in battle that lasted 17 years, she literally made history.

What a woman
As a resident of Billingham I remember the case well. The drama follows the tragic events very accurately and you cannot but admire Ann's stubbornness and perseverance. It has echoes of the woman who fought for justice after Hillsborough. Working class women who took on the establishment and government. Ann changed a law that had stood for 800 years!
Amazing acting the best true crime series I've ever watched
I watched this show with my gran and grandad, who knew Ann from a group they were in to fight for justice for their children who had been murdered my gran and grandad lost their son through murder aswell and met Ann through one of the group meetings. Watching this show sent tears to our eyes especially since it happened so close to home. This show is so inspirational on so many levels, the fact Ann fought to change a law over 800 years old is truly powerful. I think Sheridan portrayed her beautifully and she should be very proud of herself. It's the best true crime series I've ever watched and it sent chills up my spine watching it, it's very emotional but nothing is shown that is too gory, however the tragedy Ann faced is enough to make your skin crawl no one should ever have to go through this. My gran was in tears, especially considering her son had been murdered aswell and the grief and anger stays with you forever. However, I think this series was portrayed beautifully and I think all the actors did an amazing job I would definitely reccomend you watch this show, especially if you like to see people overpowering the wrongfulness of the judging system. There was a lot of scenes we hadn't heard of like the fact he had murdered two others that left us in a state of shock. We are so happy this series has come out to hopefully keep her murderer in prison for the rest of his life and keep Ann safe she is such a brave woman and without her loads of other murderes could've gotten away meaning not only did she get justice for Julie but all the other victims aswell.
