Sheriff Country

This isn't a cop show. It's a cringy drama where the some of the actors are playing cops in a badly written soap opera. The storyline was shallow and predictable. The law enforcement tactics that were portrayed were horrendous. I had hopes of this being good but it was a disappointment. Just not believable and not engaging.

This isn't a COP SHOW! I don't think it's selling itself that way either. It's a soap opera in sheriff's station. That's ok.

There is nothing about this show that will garner an award. This show is a spin-off of Fire Country, obviously. And THAT show isn't particularly great either. Watched the 1st season, then gave up because it talked too much while fighting fires. Literally stood around talking while fighting fires. About "feelings" bleck!

At least with this "cop show" they're SUPPOSED to be talking! They GET to talk about things, it's how cops and perps and victims and witnesses and....get the job done. So, talking is fine.

The scripts are really really basic though. Seriously, it's like they gave a plot to chat AI and it spit out the script...very...scripted. Nothing special, nothing spectacular, nothing to win an award with.

But the acting is good. The scenery is good. The story-lines are pretty basic but acceptable for cop stuff. So, it's good too.

This ISN'T A COP SHOW! Not by a long shot. Not sure it's selling itself that way either. It's a SOAP OPERA set in a sheriff's station. Period.

For that? It's great. It's good for lazy saturdays, while folding laundry, not digging in too deep or setting the world on fire entertainment. So, it earns a 6 for just existing.

I'll watch as long as it's not too stupid.

Whatever could go wrong with a show, Sheriff Country manages to do flawlessly. The writing feels like someone spent an afternoon prompting ChatGPT and went with the first draft.

The cast? Every single one is overacting like they're trying to win an award no one's giving. It's the kind of performance you see when an actor isn't actually living the role-just imitating what they think acting looks like.

Directing... if it's happening, I couldn't tell. The whole thing is built from platitudes and clichés, but even the cookie-cutter approach would've been an upgrade. Somehow this is worse.

I forced myself through the first two episodes. That was enough. I won't waste more time on this level of lameness. Some shows take a few episodes to find their rhythm-this one never even tuned the instrument.

Hard pass.

Has a capable and experienced cast. Halfway through watching the pilot I really, really wanted to shut it off. Thought it had to get better. Nope. By the end of the pilot I wanted to look up the writers names to I could mentally banish them from any future television experience in my home. Not certain how this got green lit by CBS, but know it won't last a full season.

So much potential, lots of opportunities to take a serious look at small town departments handling the problems in country communities with a lot less resources. Unfortunately it's a soapy drama filled and poorly overacted show. I've tried 2 shows and just find it hard to stay with it despite it playing on a Saturday night with little competition. Too many other shows available these days to keep wasting time on this one.
