Under Fire

Act 1, it seemed like a routine cop-buddy story. Act 2, a drug bust goes badly and there's a big shootout with Mexican cartel sicarios. But then they come under fire by a sniper, who kills all the cartel members. Act 3, becomes a battle of survival strategy between the two LEOs and the sniper and I was constantly yelling at the actors: pick up their body armor and ARs. It's very involving cuz you think: What would I do in this situation?

Taking its cues from a thousand B-action films before it, Under Fire is generic mediocrity not helped by pedestrian direction from Steven C. Miller. It's all very forgettable but even when the script is left in a dust cloud of cliches and derivative planks, Dylan Sprouse and Mason Gooding make up for it and have excellent rapport.

It's just a normal movie to watch and chill, nothing particularly special or memorable about it. But what really stood out was how ridiculously the FBI and DEA agents were portrayed - honestly the dumbest I've ever seen in a film. To top it off, both of them were undercover cops, which made the whole situation even more absurd and funny. Instead of being smart and sharp, they kept messing things up, making the story feel more like a comedy than a serious crime thriller.

Why this would be advertised as a drama/thriller is beyond comprehension. This is one of those too-cute, every line is suppose to be funny, buddy movies that is so poorly written it's a chore to sit through. I watched it for Mason Gooding, who is an appealing actor, stuck here in a movie way below his talents. I do not get the appeal of Dylan Sprouse at all, but no one could save this film. Bad CGI gore, loads of "look how cool, we're doing slow-mo", this movie might appeal to 10 year olds but any adult with a brain is going to be tempted to turn this off. There is no excitement, it's a movie that takes place in one location and might as well be a music video. They went for charming and got cheese instead.10 stars for Gooding, minus 8 stars for everything else in this garbage-fest.

Under Fire (2025)" is a cinematic disaster - a mess of weak storytelling, cardboard characters, and dull pacing. The direction feels clueless, the script is riddled with clichés, and even the visual effects fail to impress. Simply put, it's lousy from every possible point of view ESPECIALLY MILITARY WISE.
