Sweet Home Alabama meets Fried Green Tomatoes
I have to admit that I am the only white women in her fifties that has never seen a Hallmark movie or show. I pride myself on that. I raised boys and watched Die Hard and Naked Gun movies. However, I have a church going, God fearing mother who refused to watch family movies unless they were G rated light hearted genres.
I started watching this because I am a big fan of Wendie Malik and Lea Thompson. This was a genuinely nice show, a little hokey but anyone that grew up with a dysfunctional family, been in a relationship where you question the road not taken, will find something in this show to make you smile, laugh and yes Hallmark, bring a freaking tear or two. This show is about friendship, coming of age, dealing with lies, heartbreak, and betrayal. Keep up the good work Hallmark. This is something I will keep watching!

Funny, Unique and NOT your typical hallmark
Many of the people reviewing (trashing) this show are hallmark die hards and can't see past the fluff and predictable romance that they're used to. This show is fantastically acted, unique in its story line and very funny in an absurd and sometimes over the top way. It's a dramady with a heavy leaning into the humor. It's got lots of heart but you have to wade through the conflict to get to the payoff. It's worth the 8 ep watch thru of the first season and I really hope it gets a second season. I can see it doing better on a more established platform but kudos to hallmark for taking a chance on a show like this. Hope they make more like it.
Funny, dysfunctional, and warm hearted
First - I need to address the reviewers that gave this a low rating: this is not a book. This is a TV series. Move on. Second - this is not your typical Hallmark show and that's OK. It's incredibly warm hearted while showcasing real people and real life issues. I think it was done really well and realistically. Third - I love the casting. I think it was really well casted w/great actors. The storyline is entertaining and brings up more of the history each show to deepen the storyline. I also think the character development was great. I fell in love with the characters. I am looking forward to Season 2!
HORRIBLE. Terrible Hollywood Tragedy!
Core Issue: Stereotypical and Condescending Portrayals
The fundamental flaw of Chicken Sisters lies in its relentless reliance on reductive and harmful stereotypes of Southern people. The show does not offer a nuanced or affectionate look at small-town life; rather, it appears to operate on the assumption that the general audience consensus views residents of small Southern towns as either ridiculously ignorant or universally possessing an exaggerated, affected drawl that signals a lack of intelligence.
Dialogue and Narrative Tone
The narrative is steeped in a tone of judgement, discontent, and overt sarcasm directed specifically at the Southern way of life. Nearly every line of dialogue seems designed to poke fun at, rather than explore, the culture it depicts. This constant stream of condescending writing makes the show feel less like a comedy and more like a sustained critique designed to demean its subjects.
The Hollywood Bubble
Ultimately, the series is a highly offensive and degrading viewing experience. It functions as a jarring and disturbing exposé of what Hollywood-specifically, the entertainment industry outside the borders of Los Angeles-appears to believe about life and people in the rest of the country. Chicken Sisters is a horrible tell-tale sign of cultural disconnect and a failure of respectful, authentic storytelling.
