    Not a good medical show

There are plenty of good medical shows This one tackles only certain conditions - the mind playing tricks on the patient I'm not sure that it relies sufficiently on organic causation as does modern medicine

I found the show unsatisfying Nonetheless Zachary Quinto is superb 3 stars from me I'm sorry I wanted to like it

Quinto plays a specialist physician who deals mostly with delusions caused by (?) diseases or injuries to the brain or just plai delusion I found the various diagnoses confusing and, more to the point, uninteresting The show didn't warrant my attention Sorry I rarely give a critical review.

    Brilliant Patient, Forgettable Interns

Ep 2 delivers a compelling medical mystery with Nedra Marie Taylor's powerhouse performance as Jessie, a former WNBA star battling a neurological "disembodied" state. Her emotional journey - from fear to triumph - is the episode's beating heart, and her chemistry with Zachary Quinto's Dr. Wolf is electric. The case is engaging and human, blending real neurological intrigue with a satisfying, feel-good resolution.

But the interns remain frustratingly underdeveloped. Ashleigh LaThrop, Alex MacNicoll, Aury Krebs, and Spence Moore II are sidelined, with no meaningful growth or interaction. Even Tamberla Perry's Carol, so strong in the pilot, feels underutilized.

The show's focus on guest patients is a double-edged sword: it creates standout moments but leaves the core team feeling like afterthoughts.

Quinto's Wolf is as brilliant and empathetic as ever, but the episode's rushed pacing and lack of team involvement in diagnostics stretch believability. House and The Good Doctor balanced cases with character arcs... Brilliant Minds needs to do the same.

Verdict: 7/10 - A strong guest turn saves the episode, but the interns' stagnation holds it back. The medical drama is sharp; the character work needs depth. If the show invests in its ensemble, it could be truly brilliant. For now, it's good, but not great.

Excellent medical show based on Oliver Sacks

This is a great show based on real life British neural surgeon Dr. Oliver Sacks. Very interesting cases all based on real life cases he solved during his life time. Of course, it's modernized and Ameircanized as Dr. Sacks practiced in the 1950s and 60s in the UK, but the cases are all based on real ones. VERY intriguing. Definitely one of the better medical dramas that have been on in the last decade. No upside down CT images, no MRIs on patients wearing their jewelry, etc. They have real doctors consulting for the writers.

The casting is phenomenal. Zachary Quinto is absolutely perfect for this role. Highly recomme d this show.

    • Trivia
Dr. Oliver Wolf's (Zachary Quinto) mother, Dr. Muriel Landon (Donna Murphy), calls him by the pet name "mugwump". The term had its origins from "mugguomp", an Algonquian languages' word meaning "person of importance" or "war leader". Eventually, the word became associated with Republican political activists who were opposed to political corruption and famously switched parties by supporting Democratic candidate Grover Cleveland in the 1884 US presidential election.
