Dalgliesh continues to hunt torture killer of Sally Jupp, the prime suspect seems to be far right extremist, Malcolm Proctor, who's vigorously questioned.
I know this novel pretty well, I've read it several times, I have to say I can hardly recognise it, it should have been detailed as 'very loosely based on..'
They've massively changed the novel, which definitely had a class element to it, that's been erased for a race element, and that's something of a shame, as a victim, Sally is just a little lost.
As with the first episode, it's not a favourite, but it's a decent adaptation of a great book. Is it me, or would this have worked better if it had been just one episode longer, it's such a deep story, it may have worked better if it were longer.
Bertie Carvel absolutely nailed it here, he's fantastic in the part, truly owning it.
Andrew Tiernan was very good as Proctor, perhaps the standout performance, excellent.
7/10.

By the end you always feel that DCI Adam Dalgliesh always had a suspect in mind as to the murder of maid Sally Jupp.
The prime suspect is medic Krishna Mehta. He seems to have been in love with her. Even proposing to Sally and then getting rebuffed.
Dalgliesh knows there are other players. Most of them are in the Mehta family itself. A lot of them not being entirely truthful to the police.
Like the first story in the third series. I felt underwhelmed by the denouement. It is like eating a meal and then coming away with still feeling undernourished.
Carvel does well in adding bits of characterisation to Dalgliesh. So he does not come across as a generic crimebuster.
