Farki Farki

I hadn't watched a Nepali movie for a very long time and decided to give this one a try. It did not disappoint. The best thing about it is the concept of a time loop, which hadn't been seen in Nepali cinema before. Anmol, Jassita, Ravi, and Samriddhi have done justice to their roles, delivering performances that are both powerful and nuanced. Each actor brought a unique depth to their character, making their struggles and triumphs feel authentic and compelling. The cinematography is amazing and perfectly complements the larger-than-life storyline.

As I was watching, I found myself deeply connected with the characters. Their emotions and journeys felt real and relatable, drawing me into the story even more. However, the main star is the director, the captain of the ship, for his exceptional screenplay and direction. He has been able to capture all the emotions beautifully in this movie. I look forward to Farki Farki 2 and hope the filmmakers continue creating innovative and captivating films like this one. Nepali cinema needs more groundbreaking movies like this to keep the audience engaged and excited.

A Nepalese film getting an overseas release is such a rare occasion that I knew I had to take a chance and see it - even as there was very little information about it available for that very reason. Altogether, I do not regret seeing it, even if it is certainly far from the best I saw this year.

Effectively, this is a Groundhog's Day-type dramedy combined with a romantic comedy. Of the two key plot elements, the romantic comedy is the weaker one - fair or not, much of it came across as "discount Premalu" to me. In large part this was because in Premalu, both the male and the female lead also have a best friend each (technically, Reenu had a 2nd friend, Niharika "the Wanderlust", but we'll overlook that for now) who played a significant role in the narrative, and this film has a similar dynamic. Yet, while the male lead's friend (uncredited either here or on IMDB) actually gets fairly powerful scenes in the Groundhog Day plotline, Suzi, the friend of the female lead, is a FAR weaker character than Premalu's Kartika and her role in the plot is more reminiscent of Dune: Part Two's Shishakli - which is NOT praise by any means.

Another shortcoming of this film relative to something like Premalu is its shaky social realism. While it DOES engage with the topics of social significance when the lead, through his work in a bank, is forced to engage with the thorny business of possible insurance fraud via arson, or when the female lead Saira confronts the sexism of her other suitor - it is rather difficult to take these points seriously when the same Saira can somehow afford to live alone in a seemingly luxurious house in spite of working as a....mixologist.

Thus, the Groundhog's Day plotline comes to the rescue. I won't lie - while its "be less of an asshole" message is hardly novel, the lead makes it entertaining - particularly as he is self-aware enough to first attempt to exploit the groundhog's day power for all it's worth. He really is the type of guy to toss a friend out of a hot air balloon, trusting the time rewind he doesn't truly control to save him - and to then exploit the same power to try and rig sports betting, Back to the Future 2-style.

In all, some of this film works, some of it doesn't - but altogether it's all fun enough to make this film a good time.

The Nepali film 🎥 industry is growing up, and I love this "Farki Farki" movie. Both actor Anmol Kc and actress Jassita Gurung did very well in this movie. It's about the time loop. It's a different movie, not a copy. "Groundhog Day" is also a time loop movie, but the story of that movie and the story of "Farki Farki" are totally different. I love to watch movies like this. The Nepali film industry is giving hope to all Nepalese people. We need to support our Nepali film industry. Now, I would love to watch more Nepalese movies. "Farki Farki" movie is the best for me.
