Disappointed
I really wanted to like Hook (2025) because the concept is actually super cool, but unfortunately, the execution just didn't land. I get that it's a low-budget film, so I wasn't expecting mind-blowing effects or anything - but budget doesn't excuse bad acting, boring camera work, or a messy storyline. Most of the acting was rough, aside from Jay Robertson and Stephen Staley. Some scenes made no sense at all - like how James managed to shove an entire hook through someone's back like a sword, or how a girl kept crawling forever after getting her throat slit. It just felt like style over substance, and not in a good way. With stronger direction and more attention to story, this could have actually been a great indie horror.
The film HOOKED me into the Harry Boxley films.
This film was originally a movie I thought it would be decent, but BOY I WAS WRONG!!! The practical effects were really good, maybe besides the hook itself and the design is eh to me, the story and acting are pretty good, blood and honey 2 worthy acting, not that much blood but it makes up for it, Stephen Haley rocks as Hook, best hook thus far and Peter got a good actor. I'd love for a sequel and Harry, keep making these movies they're funny, cheesy and nice to see!
I am still waiting for a free version of Mouseboat Massacre!!! I watched it on YouTube btw, I ain't waiting for amazon prime.....

Save time; read this.
This was one of the worst movies I've ever seen. The acting was flat and unconvincing, the script was weak, and the storyline was almost nonexistent. It felt like the film tried to distract from its lack of substance by leaning heavily on sexual content, but it only highlighted how bad the writing and direction were. The cast seemed completely unprepared for anything beyond posing for the camera, and the whole production came off like an unpolished project thrown together without a clear vision. The IMDb rating of around 2.7 feels accurate - I'm still confused how it scored higher on the streaming platform where I found it. Unless you're intentionally looking for a case study in how not to make a movie, skip this one.
Young hook is an old man.... Explain
The latest entry in Disney's bizarre "dark reimagining" horror franchise, Hook had the potential to be at least somewhat decent in its opening act. The premise-an older Wendy and Peter finally catching Captain Hook, now a serial killer-could've been twisted fun. Unfortunately, things fell apart fast.
Right away, the casting raised eyebrows. Wendy and Peter's daughter somehow looked older than Wendy herself, and honestly, older than most of the adult cast. It was distracting from the first moment she appeared. The kicker? I looked the actress up, and she's actually not that old in real life-this movie just made her look decades older with its styling. And then they had her best friends with a young woman who looked half her age, which made the whole dynamic even more confusing.
Lily's friend group was another disaster. At the party scene, they gave some of the worst acting performances I've seen in years. Salt and Pepper, clearly cast more for their looks than their talent, were especially bad. Salt gave some effort; Pepper felt like a parody of a character. Jamie was equally awful, and Syd-whose only character trait was having random "sleeping problems" that went nowhere-was completely forgettable.
On the brighter side, Theresa Shangazhike as Noah was the one standout. She gave a strong, committed performance that made her scenes watchable. Unfortunately, she was surrounded by nonsense, like the actor playing Hook delivering lines such as "time to play games" in the most awkward, unbelievable way possible. And Lily's character styling didn't help-those pigtails will haunt me more than any supposed horror in the movie.
One of the strangest choices came with Hook's timeline. Somehow, "young" Captain Hook was played by an old man, while "current day" Captain Hook was a much younger man. It was backwards and never explained-was he aging in reverse? Was there a supernatural reason? The movie didn't bother to clarify.
When the climax rolled around, Hook's interactions with Lily's friends felt like an unfunny comedy skit. Instead of building tension, his dialogue landed like a bad improv routine. The result? A supposed horror movie that ended up being a messy, awkward, hideous disaster from start to finish.
This wasn't just a bad movie-it was the kind of film you finish watching and immediately wonder who approved it in the first place.

Every bit as terrible as you would assume...
Ugh, another horror rendering of a classic story. And this time it is "Peter Pan" getting royally screwed over. Can't claim to be having much of any grand expectancies for this particular movie from writer Harry Boxley and director Andrea M. Catinella. But with it being a movie that I had never heard about, and thus obviously never watched, and given my love of all things horror, of course I opted to give the movie a fair chance.
Wow, this was even worse than I had initially feared it to be.
Writer Harry Boxley put together a script and storyline that was just fully far out there. It was a script that had no proper contents in terms of an entertaining or believable storyline. And the characters felt like one-dimensional cardboard cut-outs. Thankfully writer Harry Boxley only used the names of the beloved characters from "Peter Pan", in all other aspects the storyline was original. But original doesn't equal entertaining, trust me.
The one thing that "Hook" had going for it, was the fact that I wasn't familiar with a single actor or actress on the cast list. I do enjoy watching unfamiliar and new talents, so that was a nice thing here. And the acting performances were fair enough, taking into consideration the limitations imposed on them by the inferior script.
As for the killer in the movie, Hook as you will, well that character was a joke. I don't know what they were trying to accomplish with whatever stuff was on his face, but it looked like Papier-mâché made by a pre-school kid. It was just terrible.
Should you happen to enjoy horror movies, do yourself a favor and don't waste 79 minutes on "Hook". Some of us virtually suffered through this, so you don't have to; you're quite welcome.
My rating of director Andrea M. Catinella's 2025 movie "Hook" lands on a generous two out of ten stars.
