    Inspiration for us all

A beautifully shot, insightful record of the conversion of a commercial fishing boat to solar electric power - the first time it has been done. The film documents the set backs as well as the progress on route to this landmark achievement. We see the story of technical financial and administrative challenges along the way. The filming is so engaging that its impossible not to ride this emotional roller coaster along with Hans and the community of friends that bring support to the project, and its ultimate success against the odds. Director Joe Osborn has done a superb job of documenting this powerful, human and important story with sensitivity and humour. Sometimes progress doesn't come from huge corporations, but from the vision and determination of an individual. It'll Never Work deserves a wide audience, and should inspire others to follow in Hans' footsteps. Truly inspiring and highly recommended.

    Must watch

I don't usually go for documentaries but I'm glad I found this hidden gem: it's so much more than just a documentary - it's a perfectly paced story of a personal journey, combined with an important message, plenty of comedy, pathos and a happy ending.

The West coast of Scotland has plenty of personalities and fisherman Hans Unkles is like a smaller version of Billy Connolly, complete with wellies. The scenery is beautiful - and wonderfully captured by the cinematographer Joe Osborne. The soundtrack also is very evocative of Scotland. This film deserves to be on a wider release, watch it however you can.

    I enjoyed this a lot

Sometimes, quite often you watch or rent a film and really wish you hadn't bothered. Not So this time!!

This reaches parts other big name films don't or can't. As a documentary it tells the story it needs to with minimum tech and great visuals. As a film it has an innocence which the main steam cannot recreate. That is because you are gently lead into a familiar first world struggle that will resonate with just about evereyone watching.

By the end I had the full spectrum of emotions, feelings or thoughts that had all had their buttons pushed. Well done to everything about this.

Will watch this again and more than likely again.

    Best Documentary film ever

A real life story, with real people, in a real setting, in a real world, not something you can see much of on TV now. This is a breakthrough documentary that becomes a thriller, a drama, a comedy, an inspiration and story of our times. Well done to the director Joe Osborn! It is made entirely in the village of Tayvallich, Argyll, Scotland with the West of Scotland fishing industry as the setting. It follows the making and conversion of the only commercial fishing boat in the country to be powered by an electric motor and getting most of its fuel from solar. This is a remarkable feat and story.

    Excellent film

Just watched this film ,truly inspiring ,just shows what can be done with hard work , the will and teamwork to make something work which hopefully will encourage more people to consider electric boats in the future. Hans set out to build the first electric fishing boat and despite setbacks he kept going with a passion ,and Joe the film director has managed to capture this through clever camera work,I also love the humour and music. If you want to watch a film that is fun ,interesting ,thought provoking and hopefully inspiring others to consider electric boats then this is definitely for you We also get to see a beautiful part of Scotland where is was made.
