Web Series Review: Kaantaye Kaantaye, a Bengali Web series streaming on Zee5!!
Based on a book Sonar Kanta by Narayan Sanyal , Kaantaye Kaantaye is a crime suspense thriller web series.
Synopsis - A gross miscarriage of justice causes an innocent man to commit suicide incide a lockup. Then the murders start, first the defence lawyer, then the judge who pronounced the judgement ... This is just the start and the murderer just won't let go till he has satisfied his bloodlust!!
The action starts on a stormy night, when advocate P. K. Basu (Saswata Chatterjee) along with his wife finds themselves at Hotel Repose a remote hotel in Ghoom. Heartbroken after losing his daughter recently, Basu is now chasing an unknown murderer.
With a cold blooded killer on the loose and several suspects holed up in the hotel with nowhere else to go, they r are all sitting ducks waiting to be slaughtered . P. K. Basu must find the killer before time runs out.
Plot is gripping , typical Agatha Christie stuff with Saswata being in the thick of things right from the first episode. The Casting is good overall , Direction & Cinematography r decent. The eerie ambience of a remote location has been well captured to create a feeling of unease! Climax could have been more gripping, it was a bit predictable I felt !
This web series has 10 episodes, with each episode having a runtime of around 25 mins. A good bingewatch worthy option for my bong friends for this weekend!!
Going with 3/5 for this one .. adios 🙂!!

Really Thrilling to Watch
Crime Thriller is new age sensation in the context of both films and web series. Along with the global trend, Bengali Crime Thrillers that got released in recent past with uniqueness have been successful Endeavors. But this will be wrong to say that Bengali Movie and Web Series are imitating others. In fact , those Thrillers in Bengali attained success that haven't compromised with the indigenous aspects. After all, Crime and Detective Stories hold an important place in Bengali Literature. The long saga of such Stories and Novels includes some Great names including Satyajit Ray.
But the main component that has made the Web Series interesting is the art of Storytelling. The credit definitely goes to Narayan Sanyal; a prominent writer in Bengali. Similarly, dramatic presentation of the story is unique. The Web Series maintains Suspense all through which keeps the audience hooked till the end. Another important aspect is befitting presentation of the environment from Kolkata to Darjeeling and symbolic presentation of rain, Thunderstorm and landslide on the backdrop of which action goes on. However, it takes bit more time to begin the anti-climax.
No doubt, reputed Actors there in this Web Series including Saswata Chatterjee. But Actors hardly matter in such strong story.
One of the Great Thrillers in Bengali in recent years. Really, Thrilling towatch it.

Having read all the books in the Kattai series and being a long-time fan of Narayan Sanyal, I approached this adaptation with great anticipation. However, what I found was a series that seemed to be made with no real passion or respect for the source material. It's evident that the primary goal here was not to create a faithful adaptation, but rather to profit off the success of the books. The series is a shallow, uninspired rendition that utterly fails to capture the depth and richness of Sanyal's work.
The story, which is so meticulously crafted in the books, has been mangled beyond recognition. The writers appear to believe they are superior to Sanyal, but their attempt at storytelling pales in comparison. The acting lacks depth, the cinematography is uninspired, and the character development is virtually nonexistent. The vibrant, complex characters that Sanyal brought to life-particularly PK Basu-are reduced to mere caricatures. The profound emotions and intricate relationships that are so central to the narrative are completely absent in this series.
It's heartbreaking to see a work that means so much to so many people treated with such disregard. As a fan of the Kattai books, this series was not only a letdown but also a disservice to the legacy of Narayan Sanyal.

We love Narayan Shanyal for his impecable way of telling a story.. And we love PK Basu, for his way of carrying his charrecter and leading to his inferences.
This series had butchered them into pieces!
The charecter of Rani & Shujata has almost no importance, and was not portrayed like this vulnarable at all. Kaushik lied into the shadows like a show-piece with no act that was important to the story which was not the case in the book.
The PK Basu was played by a great actor, however there were no scene of is game of inferance and getting to know the culprit in act!
Pure blunt way of telling a great story!
Dissapointed!
