Little Ema writes a letter to her future self in her room. In it she describes how she wishes things to be in the future. Interwoven into this is a future where the adult Ema works as a prostitute. What little Ema writes in the letter negates how adult Ema lives. We find out that little Ema was abused by her mother's boyfriend. Ema has no one to confess to, no one to turn to. In the letter, she wishes for the adult Ema to be happy and free, but the adult Ema is not destined for that fate.
