Ricky Greenwood has directed many porn features as homages to various popular Hollywood genres, and here takes on the science fiction/horror thriller for Digital Playground.
It does not resemble either previous Project X mainstream movie, not William Castle's futuristic 1968 film starring Christopher George or the forgettable 1987 Matthew Broderick/Helen Hunt starrer. Instead, it unfolds in imitation of Robert Wise's G-rated 1971 classic "The Andromeda Strain", the first hit movie from a Michael Crichton novel, that was a great favorite of mine at the time.
In this version, a beautiful nude entity (Luna Star) is recovered from a UFO crash site, spurring US General Tommy Pistol to set up Project X, headed by Monique Alexander, with three top scientists (Cherie DeVille, Mick Blue and Alex Jones) recruited to discover what's the entity all about and if a bio weapon can be exploited from her mysterious survival.
The first episode begins in fairly exciting fashion, with stern acting by the ensemble cast, with it obvious from the git-go that the key elements of the project are being withheld from the scientists, while the president awaits some preliminary results of their investigation. After the set-up scenes, suddenly ex-lovers Cherie and Mick have gonzo sex in a hallway for half an hour.
As with other Digital Playground web-series in recent years, the sex content crowds out most if not all story or characterization, unfortunately for those of us who still appreciate a balance between storytelling and eroticism in Adult Entertainment.
